Christopher Porter was the Head of Threat Intelligence at Google Cloud, a leading provider of cloud solutions for enterprise customers. In that role he was editor-in-chief of Google’s Threat Horizons Report, ran the threat intelligence team defending Google Cloud’s platform and customers, and oversaw a variety of Google Public Partnership programs with governments around the world.

Students should, by the end of the course, have a solid understanding of how different stakeholders in the public and private sectors view cybersecurity and one another. Students will also have learned common conceptions and misperceptions on each side and the practical impact that public- and private-sector efforts have on malicious cyber actors’ operations. Students will be introduced to the consumption of high-level strategic intelligence memos and delivery of briefings for senior decision-makers.

Christopher Porter was a nonresident senior fellow with the Cyber Statecraft Initiative at the Atlantic Council’s Scowcroft Center for Strategy and Security, where he focuses on practical methods states could use to enforce cyber arms control agreements.

Christopher Porter was the National Intelligence Officer for Cyber, leading the US Intelligence Community’s analysis of foreign cyber threats and threats to US elections. As a member of the National Intelligence Council, Christopher oversaw production of National Intelligence Estimates, was the primary cyber intelligence advisor to the Director of National Intelligence, developed the analytic portion of the Unified Intelligence Strategy, and lead the IC Cyber Analysis Leadership Council made up of the other cyber leaders of CIA, FBI, NSA, DOD, and other agencies. He frequently briefed and wrote for the President of the United States, senior Cabinet officials, the Gang of Eight and other legislative leaders in the US House of Representatives and Senate, and civilian and military cyber leaders throughout the executive branch. His duties included reviewing and presiding over the research and production plans on cyber issues of the Community's analytic components, identifying redundancies and gaps, identifying strategies to address gaps, and advising the DNI on gaps and shortfalls in analytic capabilities across the IC. He established and managed liaison relationships with academia, the business community, and other non-government subject matter experts to ensure the IC has a comprehensive understanding of cyber issues.
