Happily occupy the niche between high performance computing (HPC) and discovery oriented scientific research - both on-premise and in IaaS clouds. Client base ranges from large .gov & Pharma clients to tiny stealth-mode startups needing to bootstrap their initial company infrastructure. IaaS cloud nerd since the early days - mostly on Amazon AWS. Focused on scientific computing/HPC in the early years but now involved in Enterprise-scale cloud projects. I tend to specialize in research computing and infrastructure technology issues in the life sciences. A long time supporter of free software and open standards for life science research, I was a founding member of the Bioperl Project and co-founder of the Bioclusters mailing list. Long time board member of the Open Bioinformatics Foundation. Expert at bridging the gap between science and high performance IT. Equally comfortable working with scientific or IT senior staff and executives. Still very much a hands-on infrastructure, hardware and systems geek. Excellent communicator and technical trainer. Regular public speaker at high profile industry events.
