In 1995, he joined Team Unlimited, a sports television and event marketing company in Honolulu as the director of sales & operations. In 1996, Dey and his colleagues created the off-road triathlon Xterra. The Nissan Motor Corporation acquired the rights to the Xterra name in the automotive category from Team Unlimited for their SUV, the Nissan Xterra. During his four years at TEAM Unlimited, Dey served as the General Manager for the division champion and national finalist, Hawaii Tsunami Soccer Team (USISL). Dey was also an integral part of the operations team that hosted, for the first time ever in one location, the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup Downhill and Cross Country Finals. Promoted to vice president in 1997, Dey produced and managed more than 25 sports and adventure shows annually for ESPN, ESPN2, and Fox Sports. Show locations included Hawaii, New Zealand and Tahiti.

His sports business career began as the Assistant to the Executive Director of the Hula Bowl in 1990. He was promoted to Assistant Executive Director of the Hula Bowl All-Star Football Classic in 1992, managing nearly every aspect of the event including sponsorship, game operations, and ticket promotions.
