About Chris Dickey

My expertise is in helping organizations navigate the complexity that influences health risks and outcomes and develop strategies to reduce systemic bottlenecks that prevent solutions from effectively reaching target populations. My main competencies are in effective management (financial and operational), leadership, and public health and my personal value proposition to partners includes:- Removing Silos via participatory systems mapping and analysis.- Diversifying Funding Streams via entrepreneurship and disciplined innovation; - Aligning Culture and Strategy via short on-ramps; and- Tightening Product-Market Fit by testing assumptions about market needs and wants and adjusting when necessary. I started my career as a researcher in molecular cancer epidemiology and nutrition, moved into science journalism which led to senior management roles, co-founded a commercial company in India that provided water and primary health care via telemedicine to people in rural settings, consulted with UN agencies and health ministries, and I ran the largest department at the School of Global Public Health at NYU for more than 8 years. In my current role at NYU, I teach courses in resource allocation and entrepreneurship and I sit on advisory boards that mentor startup teams in the community.I have expertise with international health systems, particularly in countries with growing health markets, and I often provide expertise and contacts for firms seeking to grow in those areas. I travel extensively and work with many UN professionals and government ministry staff and I have many trusted global relationships.Specialties: Public Health, Finance, Entrepreneurship, Management, Molecular Biology, Communication, Database design and analytics, Research

  • Soho Think Tank @ New Ohio Theater
    Board Member
Soho Think Tank @ New Ohio Theater Jan 2010 - Present
New Ohio Theatre develops and presents the boldest and most innovative work from NYC’s diverse independent theatre community, actively expanding the boundaries of what theatre is, how it’s made, and who makes it. With a 28 year history and two Obie Awards for Sustained Excellence for developing and presenting new work, we have established ourselves as a pillar of the downtown independent theatre community. We are known for our eclectic, expansive sensibilities, our artist-centric philosophy, and for creating an environment of generosity and open access. We believe the best of NYC’s diverse indie theatre community—the small, inspired, artist-driven ensembles and the daring producing companies who operate without a permanent theatrical home—are actively and aggressively expanding the boundaries of the American theatre. We also recognize structural inequalities exist and can deny individuals access to opportunities due to race, gender, disability, age, class, and sexual orientation, and we work to counter these inequalities. We nurture, strengthen, and promote this community of independent theatre artists for NYC’s most adventurous theater audiences.
