Participated in the development of regulatory standards relating to radio-frequency (RF) exposure from novel technologies such as millimetre-wave (mmWave), massive MIMO and wireless power transfer (WPT). My primary role is to conduct research into electric-field-based wireless power transfer with the goal of developing low-cost, compact and high-efficiency products. While my work has mainly focused on the radio-frequency (RF) components of the system, I have contributed to every aspect of Solace's resonant capacitive coupling technology to ensure that the performance of the overall system is optimized. I have also been involved in the intellectual property (IP) aspects of the company. A summary of my work activities is as follows:- Electromagnetic modelling, simulation and experimental implementation of near-field wireless power transfer based on resonant capacitive coupling.- System architecture design.- Developing fixed and dynamic impedance matching techniques and algorithms.- Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC): PCB design, compliance measurements and troubleshooting.- Design of high-frequency and high-efficiency power electronic circuits.- Team leadership and supervision of work-term students.- Developing, editing and defending patent applications.- Collaborating with university research groups.- Attending conferences and trade shows.- Technical documentation.

My primary role was the development of a sense and avoid (SAA) radar for safe unmanned aircraft operations. In addition to project management responsibilities, this involved:- Radar waveform selection;- Modelling (targets, clutter, propagation, etc.);- Coherent radar signal processor design (from IF to radar display);- Performance analysis;- Field testing;- Documentation.I also served as the general RF and wireless consultant for the company, performing duties such as:- Radio path loss modelling and range estimations;- Antenna selection / placement (ground-based or airborne);- Test and measurement of microwave devices;- Selection of radios and RF components;- Field testing;- Documentation.
