Transitioning from a professional hockey player to becoming a Wealth Advisor seems like a 180 because, well, it is. When I was young, I thought I would be a pro hockey player all my life, but reaching my mid-30s changed all of that. I didn’t need a midlife crisis to realize I needed to change careers. A lot of my hockey peers transitioned from the sport into sales. I studied Business and Finance in college and returned to that for a post-hockey career. I started managing my own portfolio and as my involvement increased it became a passion.I’ve learned so much since then. What began as stock picking turned into much more. Now all of the broader wealth management strategies are integral to my day-to-day interactions with clients so I can help them achieve their goals.Using what I learned on and off the ice has been a great help to me: teamwork, an unyielding work ethic, being a mentor for kids, and volunteering as part of the Calgary Flames Alumni, an organization which has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for different causes.I had a good run in hockey. I got to live in Italy for a year as well as in various cities in the U.S., such as Charlotte, Denver, Norfolk, San Antonio, Cleveland, Milwaukee, and Atlanta.
