Education is my passion. I have been studying the chemistry of life for 16 years with conventional techniques, big data statistics, clinical practice, and their social implications. This passion allowed me to come away from college with an MS in Chemistry, a BS in Biochemistry with a minor in Bioinformatics, and a BA in Sociology. I have learned a lot and will continue to learn while applying my expertise and advancing education in Texas and safety for students.I have been in public service for 16 years as a Medic with the US Army and Army Reserve. I am a Staff Sergeant, Medic and Drill Sergeant, leader and trainer in the health sciences and organizational achievement. I have done nothing but lead, practice, train and maintain knowledge on how to save lives, stay safe and build trust and confidence to achieve goals as a team. This work includes close interaction and service within training environments, hospitals, and a myriad of other real-world settings. I am trained to do this work under duress in austere environments while lives are at stake - I love this work, am proud to do it, and is an extremely fulfilling part of my life. Currently, I am a Safety Manager with the University of Texas at Tyler. My job includes providing excellent customer service while mitigating risks of hazards within university buildings (chemical/biological/engineered). Using this experience and education illustrated by multiple professional health and safety certifications allows me to provide faculty, staff and students a safe, reliable and professional place to conduct teaching, learning and research.Previously, I worked at UT Health Science Center in Houston as a safety specialist working for the Institutional Biosafety Committee. This job’s focus was on NIH Guidlines for work with rDNA, infectious organisms and hazardous chemicals. Working with the EH&S team and university patrons allowed progressive steps to improve safety in labs and to mitigate multiple fire and life safety issues. I have also served on the Institutional Review Board for human subject research. Both committees focused on ethical considerations regarding research and public safety.I am thankful and grateful to have studied and worked at New Mexico State University. I was fortunate to be funded by the GI Bill, NMSU, NM-INBRE, and GAANN Fellowship for research material and income, as well as mentorship within the fields of chemistry, biochemistry, molecular biology and computer science.
