Staff Software Engineer

Current

San Francisco, Ca, Us

With Lucasfilm Info Systems I am responsible for AWS Architecture, workflow tooling, and development experience. I support several internal applications and help move internal workloads to the cloud. I constantly look for ways to automate the development experience, integrate useful tools, and help developers find "flow" in their daily work. I continue to work with developers, even holding weekly Cloud Office Hours, to support their immediate questions and to track long-term projects. My primary projects are Atris and Slate. Atris is the Lucasfilm digital asset management and secure file sharing system used to store, review and distribute content during productions, including artwork, scripts, reference photos/videos, working files, and dailies/cuts. Atris also acts as the active archive for future reference once a project has fully wrapped. Slate is used internally to track personnel assigned to different projects. For my job I write infrastructure code with terraform, packer and ansible. The application code I write is in python, javascript, and bash. I interface with engineers, support and customers to help develop custom solutions to internal projects and problems. Among services I help maintain include our terraform registry, pypi server, gitlab service, and an AWS AMI and container image-building system. At Lucasfilm we build the technology that our teams and partners need to succeed. This can mean supporting multiple projects in different technology domains, on multiple platforms like MacOS and Linux, and across local datacenters and AWS.https://www.imdb.com/name/nm14451697/

Vp Of Engineering

Tend.Ai

Tend is a technology company focused on the remote monitoring and control of industrial and collaborative robots. As VP of Engineering at Tend, I helped integrate and interface robots to work seamlessly with our IoT device and web application. I personally integrated robots and cameras with on-site IoT devices, designed a robust microservice stack and messaging protocol, and built the cloud and testing infrastructures. I owned a large part of the architectural work and technical stack.More specifically I developed an IoT solution for talking with multiple robots, cameras, and accessories. This system was built and deployed with docker. These microservices talked to each other over a redis pub-sub channel and reported back to our node backend using websockets. Updating the IoT devices was done via a combination of docker-compose and a custom tool for deploying and updating docker containers written in python3.I managed the backend cloud stack using AWS Cloudformation and did all provisioning using Ansible. I developed the packaging/test/deployment architecture for our IoT devices which were running Linux. This included using tools like Packer, Vagrant, Ansible, and CircleCI. I also built out the internal toolsets for making custom Debian, python, and NPM packages.

Dotloop is a technology company changing the face of real estate transactions. At Dotloop I worked on the Technical Operations Team building and scaling the AWS infrastructure powering our application. I help in every part of the stack, from building raw AWS resources to doing highly complicated infrastructure integrations with AWS Cloudformation while also participating on the on-call DevOps response team.I introduced to Dotloop and implemented configuration management with Ansible and AWS Cloudformation (using troposphere). I created reproduce-able environments, sandboxes for infrastructure development, and better security auditing. I enabled multi-region support for the company in AWS using these tools approximately 1 year ahead of schedule for the rollout of the multi-region disaster recovery plan.I migrated the companies Hardware Security Module (HSM) across AWS regions with no data loss and no downtime while providing increased transaction speeds. I created a previously unavailable test environment for development with the HSM and managed signing certificates while preventing service disruption through each certificate renewal period.I implemented security auditing using AWS Lambda, CloudWatch Events, and S3 to help our Security Team. I deployed the Anemometer service for MySQL auditing slow query logs using Ansible and AWS RDS, Lambda, and S3.Finally, I built and implemented a password sharing service using AWS API Gateway, Lambda, KMS, DynamoDB, and CloudWatch Events. Tied this together with AWS CloudFormation (using troposphere). Wrote the web app using React JS.

Epoxi Testbed Lead

Pasadena, Ca, Us

EPOXI (EPOch and DIXI) Mission testbed lead for encounter with Comet Hartley 2. http://epoxi.umd.edu/Updated and implemented operational procedures for the EPOch and DIXI (EPOXI) mission testbed. These were written in ReStructured Text and compiled using Sphinx, a python module that allowed me to publish the content in html online and in hard copy PDF. Built a mission specific Python library to manage the testbed startup, testing, and shutdown activities while improving test efficiency and reducing downtime between individual procedures. This library helped to improve logging, error checking, and code consistency in the testbed while providing additional documentation for the internal processes of the testing environment.Built a Django website to support testbed reporting replacing the original PHP website that was deprecated. Without access to the original MySQL database or the original website code I used BeautifulSoup to read each test entry from the old webpage forms, recompile the data, and push it into a new database without losing a single record.Ran operational scripts in preparation for the EPOXI encounter with comet Hartley 2.
