I have been working in the area of graduate education for 30 years in the overlapping roles of professor, researcher, dean-like administrator, coach, advisor, scholar, student, consultant, writer, and speaker. Professionally I excel at problem solving, teaching, and program development. My problem-solving skills were honed as an administrator in the Office of the Vice Provost for Graduate Education at Stanford. I was responsible for interpreting and applying university-wide graduate academic policy. I led teams to develop and revise policies in response to new circumstances. My current role is as a career coach to Stanford's PhDs and Postdocs at Stanford Career Education. My teaching includes workshops and presentations. Workshops include “How to Approach the Faculty Job Search and Still Keep Your Cool," "Meaningful Work Kit Insight Session," and “Networking for Academic Success.” I coordinate and present workshops and boot camps on the academic job search and on career exploration beyond academia. My classroom teaching at Stanford University and the University of Wisconsin-Madison spans preparing doctoral students for faculty careers and higher education administration. Presentations and keynote addresses covering a wide-range of topics in graduate education at many universities and higher education organizations.Programs I have developed include creating Stanford’s DARE Doctoral Fellowship program, now in its 10th year; conceptualizing and producing 16 multi-university convenings over three years for the Carnegie Initiative on the Doctorate; and Stanford’s Diversity Dissertation Research Opportunity grants, which have awarded over $500,000 to over 150 students. Consulting has included the AAU PhD Education Initiative.I live in Redwood City California, with my husband Ken and dog Neville. We enjoy hiking in the region, world travel, gardening, and cooking.
