Design and implement programs to advance VPGE initiatives. - Designed and taught courses for DARE (Diversifying Academia Recruiting Excellence) doctoral fellowship program. Worked with 144 Fellows in eight cohorts. - Developed the Graduate Professional Development framework - Created and ran the Diversity Dissertation Research Opportunity grant fund for doctoral student research. - Created and co-taught week-long "Jumpstart your Academic Job Search" course for 54 students.Interpret policies related to graduate education and across Stanford’s seven schools. Identify and implement relevant necessary policy changes. - Created and maintained the Graduate Academic Policy and Procedure online handbook. - Developed the Students of New Faculty policy and process for doctoral students of newly hired Stanford faculty coming from other universities.Support and advise Vice Provost.Represent the VPGE office on university-wide committees and national projects.

Research Director for the Carnegie Initiative on the Doctorate, a five-year research and action project to help doctoral programs to better prepare their graduates as stewards of the discipline. Worked with leadership teams of 84 participating departments in six disciplines (chemistry, education, English, history, math and neuroscience) at 44 universities.Wrote and edited books, chapters, and articles about the CID and the improvement of doctoral education. Presented at diverse professional society meetings.Planned and executed 15 three-day convenings of departmental representatives.

Engaged in active program of research, teaching, and service.Research: Principal Investigator, Survey on Doctoral Education and Career Preparation. Surveyed 4,114 doctoral students in 11 disciplines at 27 universities to examine the experiences of doctoral students, particularly their career goals and preparation. Resulted in widely cited report, “At Cross Purposes: What the Experiences of Today’s Doctoral Students Reveal about Doctoral Education.” Project supported by $350,000 grant from The Pew Charitable Trusts.
