Profile bio

About Chris Hansford

I graduated from a Liberal Arts college with a degree in Spanish and International Studies. Through a chain of events that began at Randolph-Macon and continued after graduation, I became interested in computers and earned a series of IT positions. This path, in turn, eventually led me to pursue a Master's in the Management of Information Technology at UVA. I have now been working with technology for almost 20 years, specializing primarily in IT management and strategy. I have generally found myself in technology departments of organizations that are not a part of the tech industry. The bulk of my experience has been with non-profits employing a staff of 200 or less, but interacting with thousands of members or constituents. For a time, I made the leap into the commercial world, working for a start-up community bank in McLean, VA. That experience, combined with my education at UVA, taught me a lot about being a strategic technology leader and prepared me for my current role as Chief Information Officer. I have now returned to my non-profit roots with EPE.I love working in technology, but prefer to work in an office with professionals from a variety of backgrounds. I think it helps me to learn about other areas of business and constantly expand my knowledge in a range of subjects. I guess the Liberal Arts background has stuck with me.Specialties: IT Strategy, Network infrastructure management, vendor management, project management

Listed skills include It Strategy, Vendor Management, Project Management, Networking, and 15 others.

Bethesda, Maryland, Us

Since joining in 2014, I have helped transform both the technology that EPE uses, and also how we use it. Through a series of ambitious projects, the IT team has been working with stakeholders across the organization to identify business goals and then deploy solutions to achieve them. During my tenure, EPE has redesigned the mobile interface of the site to better serve the audience, launched an entirely new publication entitled Market Brief to address a need for more information on the K-12 marketplace, and overhauled many of the internal systems used by staff which has resulted in a more effective, mobile workforce. I, in conjunction with my many talented colleagues, am now focused on a complete transformation of the Edweek.org online platform and user experience. Education Week began as a print publication over 30 years ago and successfully made the transition to the web in the early 2000’s. Since that time, the organization has continuously adapted to a shifting tech landscape, as well as the constantly evolving demands of the readers. The pace of this change has only been accelerating and the time has come for EdWeek to make a revolutionary step forward. Most recently, I have been working to set the stage for a successful transformation of the systems and processes that deliver EdWeek’s content, which will entail a complete redesign of the interface and the platform on which it is built. To prepare for this lofty suite of projects, we have recently revamped project collaboration and task management tools, led a major discovery and strategy initiative, and have been working to realign IT staff and resources. This kind of work is what has always drawn me to work in the technology field. I enjoy learning and problem-solving. I am optimistically looking forward to the challenges and opportunities to come.

May 2014 - Present

Vice President And Director Of Technology

Mclean, Virginia, Us

I served as the Director of Technology at Chain Bridge Bank, N.A. The bank has been in operation since 2007 and thrived through difficult economic times. I believe this was due to its focused mission and dedicated staff. My role with the bank was to analyze our business strategies and develop the technological infrastructure to enable and sometimes drive them. I supported our employees' IT needs, administered our network systems, managed vendor relationships, and supervised all projects related to technology. I worked to facilitate communication and collaboration among our staff, clients, and shareholders. During my time at the Bank, I coordinated the efforts to overhaul our website and managed a project to implement a secure messaging system. At times I worked on my own. As part of a knowledge management initiative, I constructed a wiki for use as a company intranet and in an effort to expand our capabilities, constructed a secure FTP site using Open Source technology to minimize the financial costs to the bank.
