Rainier Consulting is my own consulting firm. I lived in Seattle for 2 years, where Mount Rainier looms large and looks back at you -- or it completely vanishes behind the clouds. The southeasterly horizon becomes a daily checkpoint, it's the natural connection you've always wanted. You may leave the eyesight of Rainier, but Rainier will not leave you. This is why I named my NYC-based consultancy after her, the "place where the water begins".

Architected and built cloud APIs, UIs and databases to automate a wide variety of data flows and analytics. Collaborated with users, vendors and developers at a breakneck speed to meet the needs of a rapidly evolving organization.• Tasked to automate the flow of a growing variety of inbound and outbound data. Built a configurable data factory and job framework to support all sources and sinks with consistency, resilience and low operational overhead. Supported source/sink endpoints for SQL databases, Snowflake, text files, Excel, HTTP REST, SFTP, blob storage, and email.• Developed APIs with .NET 8 (ASP.NET Core) and YAML/JSON configuration; offloaded as much logic as possible to discrete NuGet packages on the artifact server. Hosted apps on Azure via Azure DevOps.• Integrated the data factory API with a risk analytics vendor as both source and sink, allowing for the flow of pricing and analytics for loans and investments. Prepared for integration with a vendor for trade lifecycle management.• Designed and developed .NET 8 APIs to manage loan, trade and portfolio functions. Built a new .NET 8 Blazor Server UI portal to consume the APIs, allowing the firm to manage data quality, portfolios, loans, reference data, and query execution. Contributed to an Angular 16 UI for loan management and commentary.• Recognized the need for a notification platform that could be used by all services. Designed and developed .NET 8 APIs to receive events and publish them for notification, and to bind them to templates and deliver to email and chat channels.• Migrated legacy SQL schemas and objects to a unified Azure managed instance, often whittling down complex stored procedures to manageable sizes.• Assisted internal and external auditors with SOX compliance, providing evidence of the security and reliability of the new applications.

Aggregated data on custom schedules; and delivered consolidated results via email, chatrooms and push signals.• Built a framework to link objects so that changes on one side may trigger events and notifications on the other, which addressed scaling problems due to large database documents. Supported the $1b textbook rental business in parallel.• Designed reverse logistics to route rental inventory back into the fulfillment network. Implemented services and UIs to expedite the path from customers, through grading and repair channels, back into fulfillment centers.• Migrated payment and accounting workflow orchestration services from on-premise Oracle to AWS RDS and DynamoDB. Optimized Hibernate configurations and queries to sustain heavy load testing.• Embraced a rigorous commitment to DevOps and operational excellence. Stress-tested APIs to achieve p99 latency. Added pre-computation, caching, and metric emission to services. Configured alarms for anomaly detection and pager duty escalation.• Implemented sales tax legislation into ordering, payment and accounting services to collect on behalf of FBA and third-party merchants. Reduced reporting cycle timelines by half.• Engineered a report development framework for C# via ASP.NET, derived from familiar web engineering conventions. Formulated XHTML-like markup and CSS/LESS styling; built in C# a custom style sheet parser and rendering engine. Satisfied exacting requirements to render professional PDFs with charts, graphics, and multiple layers of paged tabular data. Boosted development efficiency to reduce headcount needs by 4 engineers.• Separated content from presentation by writing C# REST services to prepare and cache Redis data for binding to presentation media (PDF, Office, JSON, CSV, HTML, WPF).• Led a team of 6 by example: coded the company's proliferating C# business logic to be readable, self-documenting and easily testable.• Served as an interim Technical Program Manager to stabilize scattered legacy production applications. • Modified Visual AccountMate, a mid-range accounting package. Built add-on modules for field force automation and customer relationship management. Re-engineered the add-on modules as a C#/ASP.NET portal, and selected components for the Palm handheld.• Met with clients to gather requirements for custom modules and modifications to Visual AccountMate. Established quotes and plans for projects, and led their execution as the lead developer.• Developed two public-facing e-commerce web sites for book vendors.

Served as CTO from the inception of the company in New York City, up through the post-merger transition period with Foodbuy.com in Atlanta.
