I have automated a high-throughput DNA and protein purification platform capable of producing 500 high-quality proteins weekly. These are then used to optimise biological candidate drugs across all therapy areas as well as provide data for predictive protein expression. To do this, I worked closely with scientists to program methods onto multiple liquid handlers to produce a highly automated platform.

The project focused on elucidating the intracellular signalling pathway used by a synthetic prostaglandin in human airway epithelial cells to trigger chloride secretion. This has encompassed submission of a research proposal; summarising the field and potential avenues of further research, six months of independent benchwork into the precise pathway utilised by this compound, and a poster presentation of my results to industry and academic specialists. I investigated the role of a transcription factor in organogenesis of the mouse inner ear through modulation of intracellular pathways. This project incorporated a literature review, three months of independent laboratory research and an oral presentation to academics. Throughout this project I was constantly critically assessing experimental designs as to improve the quality and efficiency of my work, and undertaking independent research goals that I designed.

Separate to my studies, I independently organised two summer placements; gaining first-hand experience in academic research and QC. While there, I optimised an immunolabelling practical class, investigated the possibility of replacing the standard cell line and produced an antibody stock. I was also hands-on with model organisms, investigating inflammation in zebrafish.
