About Chris Bright

Enjoying the challenges of leading a National Sport Organization in Karate Canada. The current sport environment has put leaders into action, requiring improved governance, compliance, and a renewed focus on Safe Sport for National Teams to grassroots. Prior to joining forces with Karate Canada, I held contract positions with Taekwondo Canada as their High-Performance Consultant, this put my elite sport and business background into action, leading their high performance plans with Own the Podium, Sport Canada and the Canadian Olympic Committee.Preceding my tenure with Taekwondo Canada, I enjoyed 12 years with Hockey Canada, last as the Director, Recruitment Programs & Grow the Game (2015-2020), and alongside a talented team, I successfully led growth and continued improvements of national programs with partners like, Bauer Hockey, Canadian Tire, Esso, the IIHF and the NHL/NHLPA. As a high achiever, I am proud to have led, managed and delivered many national event successes, including the inaugural Order of Hockey in Canada and reached a 300% increase in the Hockey Canada Foundation financial portfolio that accrued during my time as the Executive Director, 2011 – 2015. As the E.D., and having the opportunity to lead, learn from, and work alongside a brilliant HCF board of directors, I was well positioned to become a volunteer board member with Comrie’s Sport Equipment Bank, 2014 -2019. Currently named, the Flames Sport Bank, a KidSport partner, this organization plays an integral support role for 1000’s of Southern Alberta kids with financial and sporting equipment needs. In 2009 - 2011, my career focused on business development, alumni stewardship and philanthropical foundation work, a perfect fit to my Bachelor's of Management (‘08) and professional hockey career. The playing days were highlighted by a World Championship, bronze medal, a Spengler Cup, gold with Team Canada and incredible world experiences for my family to live, play and work abroad on 3 unique continents from 1990 to 2008.I am incredibly grateful for my diverse background, the network of business mentors, coaches and the colleagues that have helped influence and shape my career. Working alongside high performing people in high performing environments has inspired me to continue playing apart of, and leading in, stimulating growth environments.
