Archaeologist and heritage manager with seventeen years post qualification experience. My interests are landscape archaeology, heritage management and heritage education, training and the public and community engagement with heritage, enabling people to participate in the processes of research, conservation and interpretation of the historic environment. My career began as a field archaeologist working on a contract basis since February 1999, studying for a Master of Arts in Landscape Archaeology between 1999 and 2001, graduating in January 2002. Between 2002 and 2005 I worked for the North Pennines Heritage Trust as Assistant Archaeologist where I developed skills in project management and consultancy. Following a brief time working as Historic Environment Consultant for RPS Group Plc, I achieved an ambition to work in the field of UK protected landscapes, working as an Area Co-ordinator for the North Pennines AONB Partnership. In November 2007 I also achieved a long held ambition to become the Archaeologist for Northumberland National Park Authority and was made Historic Environment Officer in April 2011. My short term goal is to ensure the conservation, increased understanding and enjoyment of the historic environment in UK National Parks for the benefit of communities, businesses and visitors and to ensure the historic environment remains relevant to modern society. My long term goal is to continue to develop a career which has a demonstrably positive effect on the historic environment, to influence policy and decision makers and to ensure a positive legacy for future generations.
