Data Management Officer
Processing energy consumption data & invoices from all 500 Australia Post sites across the country. Objective was accomplished by designing a new series of inter-locking Access databases, building on redundant old databases. The aim was a semi-automated process with a user-friendly interface to update contract rates, process monthly invoices & produce reports on energy consumption by region/site. The process encountered numerous problems, resultant from the client’s unstructured, problematic invoicing system. I achieved a solution to this issue by developing a complicated ‘learning’ Access system which could effectively filter out erroneous errors in the invoice data with only minimal manual input required.
Actuarial Intern
Worked in Life Insurance department, assisting in the construction of a workbook to model the financial position of insurance brokers under different commission structures. Produced discounted cashflows as required in the model, a model which was further developed by a colleague when I left and subsequently published in a life assurance journal. As a member of the General Insurance team, assisted colleagues in performing money laundering checks on several Lloyds syndicate members. Supported reserve review of a client; used Visual Basic to input data into the CROS database and created spreadsheets to check processing for errors. Additionally, I developed strong oral and written communication skills whilst detailing weekly reports to senior managers and partners concerning worldwide updates within general insurance relevant to the department.
Material Finance Analyst Intern
Acquired experience in leading and managing team of finance personnel at Visteon. Responsible for part of the company’s budget analysis with two colleagues, which I solely ran whilst they took a week break. During this time, I became the main point of contact for all the European plant managers with queries relating to the budget process. The entire process demanded a lot of preparation and during it, a sense of initiative to deal with queries & problems whilst solely running my part of the project. Evaluated cost of every new business component to be made in 2005 in a timely fashion to be included in the company’s budget. Developed cost-cutting strategies with European colleagues for new business components to be included in the 2005 Budget. Prepared and led several presentations to the team and other finance managers on the Departments’ budget progress.
