Chair of small team putting on a brand new Python conference in the San Francisco Bay Area.I'm responsible for sponsor relationships, maintaining and developing the website (built with Python and Django), and for helping the day-to-day organisation of the conference.

Worked as a full-time maintainer of the Pants Build System, a scalable open source build tool for Python, JVM (Java/Scala/Kotlin), Go, and other languages. I worked alongside other Toolchain employees and open source maintainers from other organizations to enhance and develop the system, now used in hundreds of companies worldwide.In this role, I participated in public-facing design, documentation, and code review processes as part of a public-facing open source project, collaborating with developers with different backgrounds and priorities.As a long-term member of the global Python community, I was helped connect senior management the community through conferences, meetups, online communities, and facilitating introductions with maintainers of other key Python projects.

Led a team of 3 engineers to build systems that facilitate communication between expert advisors working on a short-term engagement, and AlphaSights’ clients. Worked remotely from the San Francisco Bay Area, with direct reports working in New York, and liaised with stakeholders in New York, London, Shanghai and Hong Kong.I was able to support corporate procurement to understand technical requirements underlying complex vendor bills, and analysed underlying usage patterns, helping negotiate savings in excess of an engineer’s salary.

Designed, led implementation, and rollout of the business’ phone conferencing platform, which powers the delivery of the business’ core product. The updated design allowed scheduling conferences on providers that better support calls in a diverse range of geographies, saving thousands of hours of manual work.

Back-end search ranking services engineer, working primarily in Python and Java, working remotely from the San Francisco Bay Area with a distributed team across multiple US time zones. I worked cross-functionally between Search Ranking and Search Production Engineering teams to integrate and productionize new Search Ranking features into production search systems

Continuing a key part of my organiser's role at PyCon Australia 2012–2013, I'm now heading up PyCon AU's fundraising efforts – building and maintaining our conference's links to industry and community bodies interested in growing the Australian Python Community.As well as this, I've been heavily involved with bootstrapping and running our financial assistance programme, which collectively awards around 10% of our budget each year to conference attendees who would not otherwise be able to make it.Information on PyCon Australia can be found at http://pycon-au.org.

Co-lead organiser of Australia's conference for the Python Programming Community. In this role, I led the conference's sponsorship and publicity efforts, as well as building and growing interest in the conference amongst both Python developers from around Australia and New Zealand, as well as community members from across the world.Throughout our rotation, PyCon Australia attracted more than 300 delegates to Hobart, and the conference's reach extended to more than 10 countries.

linux.conf.au is Australia and New Zealand's largest technical Free and Open Source Software conference. It holds a reputation for attracting the best technical and community minds to a different city in Australia or New Zealand every year. I led the effort in preparing and submitting the successful formal bid to host the conference in Hobart during 2014.In my role as conference director, I led a team of volunteers across technical and event management roles, in order to market and deliver a successful and highly memorable five-day conference.

Developed "Registrasion", an open source conference registration and ticket sales package for the Symposion conference management system, through the support of grants from the Python Software Foundation. This work allowed linux.conf.au 2017 and PyCon Australia to move away from a legacy conference management package. Registrasion was subsequently adopted by the Python Software Foundation as their registration package for PyCon US.

Linux Australia is the peak body for Free and Open Source Software in Australia. It represents some 3,000 members primarily in Australia and New Zealand. LA provides grants, organises outreach activities, and advocacy for freedoms in technology. It also underwrites and facilitates related events in Australia and New Zealand including PyCon Australia and Linux.conf.au.I was elected as a member of the Linux Australia council by my peers, through an election process open to the membership.

Working as a generalist software engineer on AsdeqDocs, an enterprise content management and distribution tool for mobile devices. My early role was centred around client-side design, development, and integration work for our native Android user interface (coded in Java). This app was written on top of AsdeqDocs' portable C++ codebase; and required development of low-level interfaces from our portable codebase to Android's lower-level APIs.More recently I've done work on quality engineering in our Java-based server product, focusing on surfacing critical bugs through improving test coverage, and designing test procedures for aspects of the code base where existing unit tests weren't sufficient.

Designing, researching, and developing the Android version of AsdeqDocs, an enterprise content management and distribution tool for mobile devices.

This role consisted of a mix of software development and developer training. My development roles included development of Django-based infrastructure for web projects, as well as development of Android applications. My most notable project was as lead developer of Meebo for Android, a popular web and mobile-based IM client.

Revitalised the University of Tasmania's Computing students society, through increasing engagement with University staff and the broader community. In this capacity, I started the society's successful series of Tech Talks, encouraging members to share their interests in the broader field of computing, and inviting speakers from around the country to Hobart to present. Throughout my tenure, I strived to build up a culture of sharing knowledge amongst computer science students.

Itinerant Computer Science Tutor. I tutored a 3rd-year/masters Machine Learning and Information Retrieval course, as well as a 3rd-year Computer Graphics course.Duties included directly teaching class sessions, and marking of assignments throughout the semester.

A three-month fixed-term role during my final year at University. I worked with the Maps Developer Platform team, producing infrastructure code for the Google Maps API platform.
