Reporting to the deputy director of finance, I lead a team of six staff providing the in-house elements of the financial services function, ensuring development plans are completed and managing any performance and disciplinary issues that may arise. I also manage the contract with our shared service provider. Financial reporting:Lead on the planning for, and production of, the trust’s annual statement of accounts and supporting working papers. Responsible for completion of significant parts of the monthly PFR to NHS Improvement, as well as other ad-hoc returns, and have developed tools to automate these. Key contact for both external and internal audit, with responsibility for implementing recommendations arising. Lead on the implementation of new accounting standards (IFRS 9 and 15 in 2018/19 and IFRS 16 in 2022/23), including briefing both executive and non-executive directors. Financial accounts:I have developed a suite of financial and non-financial KPIs for our accounts payable and accounts receivable functions in order to drive service improvement, which have helped deliver an improvement (pre-pandemic) of up to ten percentage points in our Better Payment Practice Code performance, a 30% reduction in overdue invoices payable, and a reduction in debt with the trust for action in excess of 40%Oversee developments to our ledger, including new AP workflow software and the introduction of the ‘Collaborative Planning’ forecasting tool.Main contact for the trust’s VAT advisers, and a trusted adviser to colleagues on VAT issues.Member of the charitable funds committee and actively contributed to their financial strategy.Financial planning:Co-ordination of the trust’s capital planning, inviting bids from divisions and corporate functions before prioritising these alongside operational colleagues. Responsible for setting the annual plan for the trust’s cash position and balance sheet, and the trust-wide financing and capital charges budgets.

Experience includes both financial statements audit, (including under IFRS) and governance work, including the Audit Commission's previous Use of Resources and ALE assessments, in both NHS and local government organisations.Training: I have written and delivered internal training, including presentations on improving audit quality and workshops on the certification of the housing and council tax benefit claim in local government.
