Reporting to the deputy director of finance, I lead a team of six staff providing the in-house elements of the financial services function, ensuring development plans are completed and managing any performance and disciplinary issues that may arise. I also manage the contract with our shared service provider. Financial reporting:Lead on the planning for, and production of, the trust’s annual statement of accounts and supporting working papers. Responsible for completion of significant parts of the monthly PFR to NHS Improvement, as well as other ad-hoc returns, and have developed tools to automate these. Key contact for both external and internal audit, with responsibility for implementing recommendations arising. Lead on the implementation of new accounting standards (IFRS 9 and 15 in 2018/19 and IFRS 16 in 2022/23), including briefing both executive and non-executive directors. Financial accounts:I have developed a suite of financial and non-financial KPIs for our accounts payable and accounts receivable functions in order to drive service improvement, which have helped deliver an improvement (pre-pandemic) of up to ten percentage points in our Better Payment Practice Code performance, a 30% reduction in overdue invoices payable, and a reduction in debt with the trust for action in excess of 40%Oversee developments to our ledger, including new AP workflow software and the introduction of the ‘Collaborative Planning’ forecasting tool.Main contact for the trust’s VAT advisers, and a trusted adviser to colleagues on VAT issues.Member of the charitable funds committee and actively contributed to their financial strategy.Financial planning:Co-ordination of the trust’s capital planning, inviting bids from divisions and corporate functions before prioritising these alongside operational colleagues. Responsible for setting the annual plan for the trust’s cash position and balance sheet, and the trust-wide financing and capital charges budgets.

Due diligence:Experience of performing a wide range of due diligence assignments covering individual services as well as organisations with a turnover in excess of £200 million. I have worked alongside a team of Trust Special Administrators to perform due diligence on services being disaggregated, as well as using my previous experience of local government to review social care services due to transfer to an integrated care organisation.Business cases:Significant experience of working with the HM Treasury 'Five Case' model for business cases with a capital value ranging from £5 million to in excess of £100 million and including significant reconfiguration of acute services. I have reviewed business cases both retrospectively (to identify areas for improvement) as well as 'live', prior to review by Monitor and the TDA.Assurance:Experience includes supporting NHS foundation trusts and NHS trusts in their relationships with Monitor and the TDA respectively, through providing an independent review of annual plan submissions and reviewing and challenging the financial baseline of an NHS Trust in special measures.Financial managementI have worked with both clinical and non-clinical staff on the development of a cost improvement programme for a leading mental health trust and have supported the development of trading accounts for an established foundation trust to support their service line reporting.My experience also includes foundation trust assessment work on behalf of Monitor across the community and mental health sectors, including stages 1 (financial reporting procedures), 2 (historical due diligence) and 3 (working capital reviews).

Experience includes both financial statements audit, (including under IFRS) and governance work, including the Audit Commission's previous Use of Resources and ALE assessments, in both NHS and local government organisations.Training: I have written and delivered internal training, including presentations on improving audit quality and workshops on the certification of the housing and council tax benefit claim in local government. I have participated in a national working group reviewing the firm's public sector audit approach and have contributed to the firms work on the integration of staff from the Audit Commission. Staff Development:I have been national mentor to CIPFA students across the firm, acting as a point of contact to students, line managers and HR staff regarding issues relating to the CIPFA qualification. This included carrying out an options appraisal on tuition providers, reporting to partners across the firm, and working with our HR department to provide advice on training contracts for those studying with CIPFA.
