Design and validation of a re-sequencing microarrayI was responsible for designing and validating a re-sequencing microarray for use in the genetic diagnosis of metabolic disorders. My main duties have involved designing strategies to undertake the testing of the microarray as well as undertaking bioinformatics analysis of the resulting data. This was with a view of developing the microarray as a diagnostic test. I have further disseminated the results of the resequencing microarray to colleagues and collaborators and been an invited speaker to an Affymetrix meeting. This work has been published in Human Mutation and has been presented at several conferences. Further manuscripts are in preparation. Further to this, in collaboration with the West Midlands Regional Genetics Service, I have been establishing a Next Generation sequencing service utilizing Fluidigm access arrays and Roche 454 Junior. Additionally, I have been supervising PhD students and research technicians and contributing to their research which has led to a Nature Genetics publication. I have also become a member of the COSHH sub-group committee.

Role of histone modification in double stand break repair. I was responsible for investigating the role of histone modification in double strand break repair. My main duties involved designing and carrying out experiments to achieve the research goals of the project. I have had significant involvement with the development of the project. Further work that I undertook as part of this position involved investigating the DNA damage response to nanoparticles. This project was a collaboration with the Department of Chemistry and the ESRF and has led to publications in Nanoletters and Dalton Transactions. This work was also the foundation of a MRC funded grant. I have also had influence over procurement on the project as well as the purchase of IT related equipment within the department, either as PCs, peripherals or gel documentation systems. I also took up the role of Biological safety officer during this position. I ensured risk assessments were constructed and adhered to and I have been influential in ensuring individuals' compliance with local Health and Safety policy.

Investigation of the PTCH gene in Gorlin Syndrome.During my first postdoctoral position I was investigating the causal gene in Gorlin Syndrome. My main duties centered around experimental design and execution on the project. I further maintained collaborations with groups based at the Karolinska Institute in Sweden and Keele University. As the sole researcher on the project, I was responsible for a budget of £10000/ year which I was able to adhere to.

My duties involved preparation of school laboratory experiments and ensuring all materials were delivered in good time for the lesson.
