The underlying drivers of consumer behavior have always fascinated me. Why do some people choose one brand of toothpaste over another? How do people decide whether to become a loyal customer to a particular restaurant? Put another way: What motivates people, and how can brands capitalize on this understanding to drive profitable growth? The pursuit of answers to these questions has been a constant throughout my professional life. During the early part of my career, in marketing management at Johnson & Johnson, I pushed to translate market research insights for the Band-Aid and Tylenol brands—typically trapped inside presentation decks—into more personally relevant marketing approaches. I wanted to help brands develop more meaningful connections with their most valuable consumers. It was this quest that was the inspiration for Rosetta, which my team and I launched and grew to become the largest privately held digital marketing agency in the world. We sold it to Publicis in 2011 for $575M. In my experience as both a founder and as a lecturer at Princeton, I have seen how entrepreneurs wrestle every day with making mission-critical choices such as hiring key leaders, selecting partners, or choosing investors. In 2014, I launched Rosemark to help them sort through those tricky choices. My partners and I shine a light on the pitfalls and help entrepreneurs profit from the possibilities they may not see. We amplify their impact so they can capture and share the value they have created with those who stood next to them along the way. They’ve written a great story. We help them write the next chapter. And we’re still laser-focused on understanding the drivers of consumer behavior: At Rosemark, we are building a platform of interdependent companies focused on delivering the insights, services, and technology needed to drive lifetime customer value.
