About Chris L.

With over 25 years of experience with Linux/UNIX Administration and Infrastructure Engineering, I help clients design and implement proper AWS and GCP infrastructure cultures based on automation, simplicity, security, and empathy for users. I use HashiCorp tools, such as Consul, Packer, Nomad, and Terraform, to highly optimize the running of containers and the deployment of infrastructure-as-code. I also hold two Google Cloud certifications: Professional Cloud Architect and Professional Cloud Security Engineer, as well as a Redhat Certified Technician certification.Previously, I worked as a Distinguished Consultant GCP Foundations at Google, where I architected, automated, and deployed GCP Foundations to Fortune 500 customers. I also led and managed teams of Terraform developers, authored documentation packages, and delivered training sessions to teach "cloud think" to organizations. Before that, I joined Blockchain.com to lead an effort to re-engineer their GCP infrastructure with a focus on 100% infrastructure-as-code and security. My mission is to enable businesses to do business by empowering developers with the tools they need to ship code and creating a culture of empathy for all.

    Architected, engineered and deployed a Zero Trust compliant Google Cloud infrastructure to host DoD research lab workloads with strict silos for IL2, IL4 & IL5. Using managed Chrome profiles and Access Context Manager + GCP Cloud Workstations ensured the Terraform code used to build the DoD GCP was developed on, and did not leave the boundary of that DoD GCP. Built on-demand "Sandbox" environments for reasearchers to quickly spin up a location to test tooling, products, and VertexAI workloads, in a secured and hygenic environment. Working with Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA), attempted to bring cloud concepts to the Linux OS STIG testing standards. Most successful was working with thought leaders within DoD to advocate a paradigm shift towards "cloud think", and acceptance of urgent adoption of new tooling to secure and optimize the infrastructure to empower rapid success of DoD researchers working on very hard problem solving.

    Built (racked) the UNIX & Linux NFS Test Lab to enable testing of the Microsoft Services For UNIX software. Using a combination of traditional IBM rack mount servers plus test mule XBox PCs, assembled a cluster of test machines to performance and stress test NFS shares hosted on large Windows Servers. Highlighting the optimization potential of Linux, built a test machine using a recycled Dell desktop that booted from a floppy (and had no hard drive), that was able to blue screen a very large Windows Server using scripted `dd` and `bonnie++` NFS writes.
