HP ALM.Tableau is an analytics tool for visualising large amounts of data using a range of charts and tables. I write test scripts that verify that the report on screen aligns with the design specification and includes SQL queries to ensure that samples of visible data equate to the database. As part of the role I am also involved in producing release documentation and take part in the Agile process and ceremonies.

Starting from a functional specification, writing a test script to validate all functional requirements both positively and negatively. Using Agile methodology to carry out exploratory testing to uncover bugs in the code and errors in the specification and bringing them to the attention of the Developer, and also considering the End-User by querying functionality with the Project Manager. Setting up realistic test data and formally performing the test script to produce video and documentary evidence according to regulatory standards, and also completing post-testing documentation. Throughout the lifecycle of the project, providing regular progress reports to the team via daily meetings and regular contact with colleagues. Validation activities include Operational Qualification, Study Qualification and Regression testing.

The VLE was a web-based system where Academic Staff could add documents, videos, presentations, quizzes and many other useful facilities to a degree module page. These were highly customisable and therefore required thorough testing to ensure that the system functioned as specified and as a user might expect. The VLE also interacted with other systems within the University and I assisted in testing this interactivity for System Integration.

Main Skills – Microsoft Excel, Analysis of Technical Data, Data Quality, Communication, knowledge of Electricity NetworksI worked as part of a small team compiling data about the Electricity Network for the benefit of the Company, the Regulator and third parties. One of the main tasks was to list all of the inquiries made by customers wishing to connect new developments for both generation, such as wind farms, or load, such as housing estates or factories, to the regional Electricity Network. All of this information was compiled into a spreadsheet with details of the development location, formatted to the regulatory standard and published on the company website. The data was received from all of the many district offices across the East and West Midlands and required careful validation by cross-referencing the main records database to ensure all essential details were correct. Processing the data required a high level of IT literacy and an advanced knowledge of formulas and pivot tables in Excel. This task also involved communicating with many colleagues across the company via email and telephone to request data. Other tasks included summarising data about the existing network and presenting it coherently and effectively to Senior Planners to discuss and establish how an ideal network would be modeled; analysing trends in electricity usage at different points of the network to help plan for the future; comparing the network modelling data with the control system data to ensure complete consistency.

Main Skills – Geographic Information Systems (ESRI-ARCFM), Quality Assurance, Attention to DetailMapping gas pipes as part of a refurbishment project which inserted plastic pipes into aging iron pipes. This involved validation of handmade field survey data to ensure that all of the details were present and corresponded to designs and existing records. Any discrepancies needed to be queried and clarified with the surveyor and, where necessary, original replacement designs would be remade to match the field survey data. The new pipe data was digitised by updating the computerised maps with all the details provided, ensuring visual clarity and compliance with official regulations. Any errors found on existing records were officially documented. All paperwork was scanned and archived using SAP.

Main skills - Problem Solving, Methodical Thinking, Communication, Control System Operation, Distribution Safety Rules.Producing switching instructions using the Electricity Network Management Control System in order to make sections of the Electricity Network safe for Engineers to work on. I had to take a thorough and methodical approach to each task, working to very strict safety rules and providing solutions to solve predicted problems. This required regular telephone contact with Engineers to discuss problems and solutions, and the ability to give straightforward explanations of complicated situations. I developed an ability to communicate clearly with colleagues in different roles and also gained experience of managing colleague expectations. At the beginning of this role, I standardised procedures between the East and West Midlands and at the end of this job I acted as a point of contact for Engineers learning to write schedules themselves, who were in need of expert support.

Main Skills - Testing, SCADA Telecontrol Data, Attention to Detail, Project Management, SQL, Organisational Skills, Training ColleaguesThis was a varied role, mostly concerned with maintaining the Electricity Network Management Control System (ENMAC) and telecontrol data for remote devices. A very high level of data accuracy was required for the system to operate effectively. My achievements during this role included successfully managing a project to replace an ineffective telecontrol system, taking part in the implementation of ENMAC in the East and West Midlands, and playing significant roles in the commissioning of two large substations. I also gained experience of using SQL to query the Control System data to highlight and fix errors, and used my experience in the role to train new members of the team. The multi-faceted nature of the work in this pressurised environment meant that I developed very strong planning and organisational skills to manage multiple tasks and prioritise my workload.

Main Skills - Geographic Information Systems (GE Smallworld), Managing own Workload.Updating and amending records of Electrical Networks in Geographical, Schematic and Alphanumeric format. This involved transferring records of network changes such as new cables and substations from paper to an electronic format. I was selected for a project to cleanse the data on the schematic diagram of the High Voltage Network in preparation for a data transfer to create the initial data for the new network control system (ENMAC). At the end of this project I was working single-handedly and managing my workload without assistance. The project was successfully completed on time for the scheduled data transfer.
