Profile bio

About Chris Lennoxsmith

I am an experienced programmer who has found that roles interacting with people provide the most satisfaction. I have excelled in finding solutions to problems that satisfy end users. I have lead teams in a high-pressure environments, with diverse specialities, and have introduced many initiatives to improve our ability to deliver sound code to production environments. My role at this company has changed many times, Developer, Team Lead, Build and Release Manager, and then Senior Developer. For some years now I have run our Change Approval Board and involved myself in all manner of proposed changes to our production environments. I remain the key SME on a critical legacy system, for which I oversee all aspects of development, test, and delivery, including the design and implementation of the development environment it needs. This led me to exploring and understanding databases and source controlling schema and content as this legacy system is a CMS. I have gathered a considerable amount of knowledge in how to utilise RedGate’s suite of tools to manage databases in some non-standard ways. This in turn made me the ideal candidate to analyse how we could begin to change our system to be come GDPR compliant at the data level. Recently I have attended courses on this to attempt to clarify what needs to change further in our systems as we had no acknowledged expert in this area who also understood our systems.I do not like to assume we are done - I prefer to continue to seek to improve our systems, processes and adherence to standards and regulations. All these experiences have given me the knowledge, skills, and confidence to fulfil the role of Software Development Manager.Specialties: ASP, JavaScript, C# .Net, SQL databases, VB6, XML/XSL, SVN and Git, RedGate, SourceControl, GDPR.

Listed skills include Microsoft Sql Server, Sql, .Net, C#, and 22 others.

Build And Release Manager (Move With Us)

In an environment which was initially designed to allow live development I have been appointed as the Build and Release Manager, with responsibility for the safe deployment of all software through our testing sites, and into live. The entire solution, including critical database content, has been source controlled using SVN, Git and RedGate Source Control, and all live releases go through a proven Deployment process, using Team City and Octopus. My role touches all phases of development as I provide analysis on solutions and potential consequences, particularly with reference to our legacy systems. Often I am the primary test resource, or a conduit to business users being guided through UAT processes. Currently we are using development and test environments which were built from scratch specifically for the purpose, and are maintained and updated by me. I still perform key developments where necessary, most commonly on the older aspects of the system for which I remain a subject matter expert.Despite all of the above my main role is to control the release process through from the inception of a new product, or patch to existing product, all the way through until it has been deployed to the live environment. This will also include being able to define what a build contains, whether this pertains to system security, liaising with the business' security partners, essential communications internally and externally, and validating the live releases.
