I am Director of Legal & Rights, BBC News International Services, with a passionate interest in media, and over two decades of commercial, legal and regulatory experience in TV broadcasting and production, digital publishing, and live events. Today, I provide agile business solutions to highly complex and technical areas, with exposure across seven operating companies and 350 employees in 12 countries. My media career started at L!VE TV / MirrorTel in 1998 as a Programme Lawyer, having qualified and initially worked as a Barrister. In 2000, I transitioned to TV production as Legal and Business Affairs Advisor for Planet 24, that included The Big Breakfast on Channel 4 and the launch of Survivor on ITV. In 2002, I joined Channel 5, progressing to Head of Content Legal Advice, where I broke new ground regarding programme content, product placement, advertisement and sponsorship. In 2011, I joined the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games as Senior Ceremonies Lawyer. Here, I drafted and negotiated legal agreements and advised on headline talent, composers, music clearances, film commissions, contracts, footage and character licences, as well as child performance licensing. I achieved flexibility on IPR and exceeded publishing and revenue targets, before moving to the BBC in 2012.I am always interested in expanding my professional network and would love to connect with like-minded professionals who would like to know more about my work.
