As the manager of the Design Optimization department at Franklin Fueling Systems, I oversee a global marketing team that works closely with the sales department as well as our company’s end users. This dynamic department was created and developed due to the company’s recognition that customers needed and deserved greater assistance and knowledge of fueling systems products and how they should best be implemented into a complete system to accommodate their specific needs.The main function of this group has been to aid our customers in the design of service stations throughout the world. With the help of a variety of engineering and marketing members within our company, and also some of our professional partners, we have developed a number of “tools” to be used to help lower the total cost of ownership (TCO) for each site that is being constructed. Upon completion of these exercises, it is then our responsibility to help train these local installers on how we came up with the information we did, and then demonstrate and identify how these products should be utilized, whether this is conducted through an online webinar or a face-to-face presentation in those regions.This department has not only shown to be a tremendous value to our customers in terms of lowering their TCO and the education they have gained regarding our products, but it also has done a significant job of growing our company’s sales organically through the introduction of unfamiliar products to customers, identifying specific needs that the customers have that Franklin Fueling Systems previously was unaware of, and by developing greater global business relationships with new customers, distributors, and project management companies. All of these characteristics of the Design Optimization department help Franklin Fueling Systems maintain itself as the global leader for The Total System Solution.

Since joining Franklin Fueling Systems, my responsibilities and expectations have grown significantly. In engineering related areas, I handle engineering change notices (ECN) thoughout their entire life-cycle to ensure that any change, regardless of magnitude, is documented and made visible to everyone necessary. Some tasks associated with this process that help create transparency would include: modifications to bills of materials and work center routing information using the company's ERP software, JD Edwards, as well as creating or modifiying drawings using a variety of CAD softwares including AutoCAD, Pro/E Wildfire, and to a lesser degree Solidworks. Aside from the ECN process, working alongside other mechanical engineers to design and develop innovative products is another undertaking that I have. During this process, a variety of drawing and design iterations are produced using the aforementioned softwares to ensure a product of the highest possible quality for Franklin Fueling Systems' end users.I have also spent a large portion of time working with our Manufacturing Engineering department to help update procedural documents that are used by production employees when creating or assembling products. Often times during the ECN process, a component or assembly will be modified, and its my job, along with the Manufacturing Engineering department, to ensure that the modifications are implemented as quickly and efficiently as possible.Additionally, I have worked on numerous projects with our company's Marketing department. These projects have included: graphics for tradeshow displays, catalogs, and brochures, rapid prototype development and modeling to use for visual references in sales meetings, and product rationalization, which allows for our product managers to reduce or eliminate inventory of low volume products and focus their energy on marketing new and innovative products or coming up with ways to increase margins on more popular existing items.

While working at Dillman Equipment, Inc., I was in a two person group that was in charge of creating asphalt plant layouts as well as designing silo storage systems, cold storage bins, and aggregate elevators (all built to order) constructed with structural steel and sheetmetal using AutoCAD and Autodesk Inventor. These components all had to meet a variety of state regulations in terms of length and weight when being transported between construction sites.I also assisted the in-house electicians with the design of UL compliant PLC schematics for asphalt plant control vans which were also custom built on a per order basis.During my entire time with the company, I was in constant communication with the Materials department regarding inventory levels, bills of materials, and routings/work center information located in the company's ERP software (JobBoss). I also spent a great deal of time working along side machinists and fabricators on issues surrounding the quality and manufacturability of the custom products that were being produced.
