Established and implemented the technical direction of Open English. This included a microservice application architecture, Continuous Deployment pipeline, and long term application system design. Responsibilities included the design and implementation of our Payment Platform, Learning Platform, and shared services layers.Defined the software development standards and processes used for all applications at Open English. I implemented the initial version of our microservices architecture, worked with the architecture team to create our core services layer called the substrate, which all applications use and worked closely with operations to create our continuous deployment process. Our CD pipeline has successfully deployed more than 9,000 applications this year. As interim Director of Software Development I defined our requirements and project on boarding process, introduced OKRs (Objectives and Key Results) to OE as a way to focus the organization on what matter most. Conducted bi-weekly 1x1’s with the team. Worked closely with the PMO to simplify requirements before they got to the dev team. Communicate dev priorities to the company executives.Built out Open English' US based development team from one person to eight in about six months.I spearheaded OE’s mobile (iOS and Android) strategy, direction, architecture and implementation. I was the business and technical champion for Overstock.com’s foray into the mobile space. During this time I was able to increase mobile revenues more than 4x.Worked with Overstock.com’s CFO and Controller to implement several strategic changes to the company’s financial systems. The changes involved business and development teams, and changed the order/capture process. I managed the overall implementation and worked with my development teams to complete the project.Co-business owner and technical lead for Eziba.com, a private sale site launched by Overstock.com. Eziba required integration with many Overstock.com systems, a completely new look and feel, and a fresh way to present products to customers. The project was finished on time and delivered successfully in the summer of 2010.Tasked with launching, designing and managing the product mix for O.biz, Overstock.com’s B2B website. I filled the dual role of technical oversight and business direction for Overstock.com’s first B2B website. Worked with multiple software development teams and various buying groups at Overstock.com to create a unique B2B site that offered small businesses a new way to buy commercial grade products. The project was completed ahead of schedule and successfully launched in November 2009.

In this role, I defined and implemented Overstock.com’s entire Java build pipeline, which included: Maven for building, Hudson (now Jenkins) for continuous integration, and Nexus for artifact management. In addition to defining this architecture I also trained dev teams on how to use it. I built a dynamic and highly configurable algorithm for Overstock.com’s EDI interfaces. The presentation layer used JSTL, Struts, and Tiles. CSS was used extensively as well. Responsible for analyzing and contributing to the overall system design for several applications at PacifiCorp. These responsibilities included participating in the design team, ensuring the design adhered to PacifiCorp’s blueprint, defining the component model, and specifying the deployment model.
