The Strategic Investment Fund (SIF) is the Gates Foundation's $2.5 billion corporate VC / structured finance group. We use equity, debt, and guarantees to support entrepreneurs and companies who are driving critical innovations tied to the foundation's ambitious goals in global health, global development, and U.S. education.I focus primarily on early-stage development of therapeutics and vaccines. I worked on and manage our investments in BioNTech (BNTX), Exscientia (EXAI), Ensoma, Vedanta Biosciences, Radiant Biotherapeutics, Freya Biosciences, Lodo Therapeutics (exited to Zymergen ZY), Sinopharm, Ustar Biotechnologies, and OneLoad.I also work on the foundation’s Accelerator program to make small equity investments supporting early-stage biotech platforms.In addition, I’ve led our volume guarantee work on products including HPV vaccine, inactivated polio vaccine, novel oral polio vaccine, and generic molnupiravir.
