Independent consultant helping start-up and established companies develop challenging solutions for the sustainable production of fuels, chemicals and foods at lab-scale, up-scale and full-scale operations. I am specializing in all aspects of Carbon Capture and Transformation (CCT) technologies for products for the circular bioeconomy using (gas) fermentation and deploying green energy via integration of water and carbon dioxide electrolyzers into manufacturing processes.I am a technical leader with a strong background in chemistry, physics, engineering and biology and have excelled as an individual contributor, project manager and team leader in the gas fermentation space and the data storage industry. My technical depth acquired across these varied disciplines has allowed me to continuously come up with innovative solutions in groundbreaking technologies. As a team leader, I have focused on IP generation and sustainability to consistently execute on roadmaps. Starting out as a chemist, I expanded my expertise over the years into nano-technology (micromachining of sensors for Scanning Probe Microscopes) and advanced optics (plasmonics, nanophotonics) and used these skills to participate in the development of a next generation integrated optical/magnetic recording head for high density data storage applications (HAMR-Heat Assisted Magnetic Recording). After that, I delved into biology by exploring the gas fermentation space. Here I have successfully developed scalable sustainable processes to convert waste carbon into fuels, chemicals and proteins for nutritional purposes and have worked on novel products for the circular economy by mitigating industrial CO2 emissions. This work entailed anaerobe and aerobe continuous gas fermentation as well as multi-stage fermentation processes using bacteria, yeasts and algae. I have also integrated CO2 electrolyzer technology to demonstrate the feasibility of 100% substrate carbon capture and conversion into chemicals. I have a high degree of professional curiosity and always look forward to learning something new. I enjoy early-stage technology development by prototyping equipment and procedures but also like to improve existing processes to make them fit for commercial use. Being interested in the economics of technical processes and the environmental impact of technology in general, I have involved myself with TEA and LCA work throughout.
