- Led the development of an ETL pipeline to facilitate the Genomics team's batch data processing needs. This system has become the team's primary platform for importing and exporting data necessary for daily operation.- Migrated several legacy in-house interfaces onto more powerful third-party business intelligence tools. The new interfaces drive several projects related to resource prioritization and clinical quality control, and are automatically kept up-to-date by the pipelines discussed above.- Developed smother (https://github.com/ChrisBeaumont/smother) to deal with some of Counsyl's legacy codebases with lengthy (multi-hour) test suites. Smother identifies which tests might be affected by arbitrary changes to these codebases, allowing developers to test such changes much more quickly.

As an engineer on the Genomics team at Counsyl, I designed and maintained systems responsible for the clinical interpretation of 50,000 quarterly DNA tests. - Created a backtesting system for evaluating proposed changes to Counsyl's engine for auto-interpreting DNA mutations. Optimized this engine to be 100 times faster at bulk reprocessing of historical data, and developed a standardized workflow for analyzing backtesting results. This has allowed the clinical interpretation group to iterate on automation strategies twice as quickly, while maintaining high quality. - Built search interfaces to give genetic counselors easy access to internal data about genetic variants. This interface has afforded non-engineers more autonomy for data exploration.

Developing the Python interface to the SciDB Database Management System.- Developed a new lower-level, auto-generated API layer to wrap SciDB's native query primitive; used this to simplify and extend the existing high-level NumPy-like interface. This simplified the implementation details of SciDB-Py, and simultaneously gave users better control when building complex SciDB queries.

Created and lead the development of Glue (https://github.com/glue-viz/glue), a Python and Qt application to build interactive, linked-view visualizations of interrelated scientific datasets.- Contracted with NASA to develop Glue as a tool to visualize spectroscopic data from the James Webb Space Telescope (the planned successor to Hubble)- Brought Glue to maturity, such that the software continues to be actively used and developed now that I have stepped down as lead developer.
