Construction Inspector
CurrentWMATA-6 Rehabilitation Project:Oversee and inspects multiple construction projects/sites to ensure they meet WMATA specifications as well as Local and Jurisdictional codes. Inspects all phases of construction and testing relative to the work assignment. Typical inspection will include structural, mechanical, electrical, life safety and security installations. Conducts field surveys to detect potential problems and to ensure field changes are properly channeled and documented. Informs Construction Inspection Facilitator or Supervisor, Field Projects of non-compliance with contract provisions and monitors corrective action. Investigates problems and initiates suggestions and actions for resolution to minimize work disruption. Ensures the contractor is working with contract approved and up-to-date contract drawings. Verifies that the installation of material and equipment conform to WMATA specifications and standards. Observes installation and testing for compliance with applicable safety regulations as follows: Inspects for unsafe practices and notifies safety representative on site to take action to correct safety hazards. In emergency situations, stops the work and immediately reports the action to a supervisor. Performs daily safety inspections; prepares safety reports; and attends contractor's tool box safety meetings.Assists the respective Construction Engineer(s), Construction Inspector Supervisor/Facilitator in conducting substantial completion inspections (SCI) and final acceptance inspections. Reviews, verifies and documents as-built drawings.Works various shifts and schedules as may be assigned and, from time to time, performs other duties as required and/or assigned. Often works independently with minimal supervision.
