I carry out seasonal work for Hatch Mansfield during the lead up to Christmas. Here I display their wines, talk to customers of various backgrounds through what we have to offer, and build awareness of the prestigious brands.In representing an agency who distributes highly regarded brands, such as Champagne Taittinger and Louis Jadot, I understand the importance of being presentable, polite and enthusiastic about the products. I take pride in undertaking thorough prep work to build on my WSET Level 2 exams to allow me to answer questions about production and appreciating the wines.

Amsterdam Science Park

I spent 12 months on ERASMUS placement at the University of Amsterdam in a research group. I contributed to two projects and was co-authored on one paper.My research placement was at the University of Amsterdam in the Molecular Photonics Group (HIMS). Here I studied High-Resolution Gas-Phase Laser Spectroscopy. I used a range of advanced spectroscopic techniques to study how light interacts with different classes of photoactive molecules and the states that such molecules occupy. This was my first time in a high-profile research laboratory and was trusted to operate individually in a lab where usually only PhD students would do so. From this, I learned the importance of thorough research and enjoyed the process of completing advanced project work. I greatly furthered my oral presentation and report writing skills. I co-presented a poster at the 2015 Holland Research School of Molecular Chemistry, contributed work to another, and designed my own poster to attract new workers to the group.I was delighted to have made a tangible contribution to the group in an area for which there is much promise, and was commended for my ideas for research strategies, commitment and attitude.

Amber Restaurant, Scotch Whisky Experience

My work at the Scotch Whisky Experience exposed me to events, waitering and tending a bar of over 400 whiskies. It allowed me to develop my understanding of the complexities and production of whisky, and further my skills in a customer-facing roll. It has developed my interpersonal skills, discipline in time management, and taught me to work under pressure.

The Institute Of Mechanical, Process And Energy Engineering

I was given responsibility of conducting the final months of experiments for two masters projects, which studied the use of metal oxide catalysts in selective hydrogenation reactions. This taught me to carry out experiments to a high standard and work efficiently. I was responsible for preparing and running experiments, gathering data, using Gas Chromatographs and interpreting data.

As a keyholder, I was given full responsibility to open and close the Leith store safely, and complete banking and closing procedures, while driving to meet targets and interact with customers.

The Scotch Malt Whisky Society, The Dining Rooms

During my first year at University, I worked at the Dining Rooms Restaurant, based at the Scotch Malt Whisky Society. This involved thorough prep and product knowledge for fine dining, and catering to VIP individuals in events. This was where my interest in whisky was sparked, as with a whisky menu that changed on a monthly basis, I was expected to keep up to date with the products, and would match whiskies to an amuse-bouche and other dishes.
