I once dreamed of becoming a chef — crafting extraordinary dishes with the finest ingredients the world has to offer, to satisfy and move those who come to my table, food that could touch people's hearts.While I did not pursue that path, I found myself cooking something different these days. People call it "insights" or "analysis". Though this type of food may feel abstract, but it is very tangible. The process of delivering insights is very much like preparing a dish. The main ingredient is data, different types of data with varying degree of quality that is sourced (data pipelines) in many different ways. A lot of work is done to prepare the data (SQL, Python, modelling), cooked with different techniques (statistics, math, domain knowledge) and beautifully plated (visualisation, presentation, story-telling). The making of each dish is an iterative process refined through self review, peer reviews and stakeholder consultations before being delivered.Like the kitchen that makes world class, Michelin-star-level dishes, they are not made alone. It takes a strong and cohesive team. My vision is to build such a team, working together to deliver world-class analysis and insights for the customers we serve.
