About Christopher O'Shea

I am a professional basketball coach dedicated to building strong connections, fostering personal growth, and creating a culture grounded in commitment, accountability, and hard work. With over 20 years of experience across European basketball, I bring a broad coaching background encompassing youth development, national teams, and professional clubs.Currently, I serve as Head Coach for Austria's men's and women's national teams and as Sports Director for Basketball Austria, overseeing the federation's national team program. My coaching journey began with 12 impactful seasons at the Gmunden Swans, where I coached at all levels, from U10 through the men's professional team. During my final seven seasons there, I also spent each summer as an assistant coach for various youth national teams and, later, the men's national team. After my time in Gmunden, I joined the Telekom Baskets Bonn in Germany's top division (EasyCredit BBL) as lead Assistant Coach, where I spent six seasons and served as Interim Head Coach, leading the team to a playoff appearance. In 2021, I returned to Austria as Head Coach of the Klosterneuburg Dukes until October 2022, when I transitioned into my full-time role with the federation as Head Coach of the men's national team.My Coaching Why:Coaching is fundamentally about building genuine connections on and off the court. Through meaningful relationships with players, staff, and the community, I create a foundation where values like hard work, accountability, and personal growth can flourish. By prioritizing connection, I strive to ensure that each athlete feels valued, motivated, and equipped to reach their highest potential. While competitive success is important, I measure my impact through the lasting relationships I build and the positive development of every individual I coach.Licenses and Certifications:A-Level Coaching License (Germany & Austria)FIBA Coaching License
