As a musician, I am in multiple instruments (voice, fiddle, banjo, guitar, upright bass, ukulele) and in multiple traditions (jazz, blues, folk, country, bluegrass, cajun, old time, swedish gammaldans) and the songs, histories, and stories that come with those traditions. I also write and perform my own original compositions with my touring group, Bumper Jacksons. I have won multiple awards and grants, including: multiple Washington Area Music Awards (Best Folk Album, Best Folk Band, Artist of the Year to name a few), Maryland Touring Artist Roster, Mid-Atlantic Arts Council Touring Grant, Strathmore Artist Residency, and received a Maryland Traditions Grant to study 1600s-1800s Swedish dance fiddling from an elder in the tradition.As an educator, I am a routinely invited speaker and workshop leader at schools, universities, festivals and community centers across the country for topics ranging from technical musical ideas to how music history intertwines with social justice. As a bandleader, I developed an employee management style that prioritizes non-violent communication (NVC), values-based consensus, democratic-socialist principles, and informed consent. These principles live out in practices such as: an open & creative artistic process; an open-book accounting system where employees had access to information on how every dollar was coming into the LLC and how every dollar was spent; membership in Local 1000 musician's union; etc. Wrote the entirety of the band’s press copy for PR outreach, led social media initiatives, planned and executed promotion efforts for recordings & tours, and directly engaged in face-to-face interactions with fans on each and every performance. Produced 5 full-length albums with varying budget sizes and directed not only the recording process, but artistic design for album covers, leaflet design, and distribution plans. Produced 3 full-length music video projects focused on positive messages and community engagement.

• Conducted field experiments studying the cognitive development of young children using touch screen technology, as well as qualitative measures to determine how children attributed agency to the computers they were “playing with”. • Trained and supervised a staff of undergraduate and graduate research assistants in experimental procedures, data management, and Institutional Review Board protocols. • Performed a variety of administrative management activities including data management, budget management, lab web page maintenance, the recruitment of volunteers, providing support to the Principal Investigator and post-doc researchers in the laboratory.• Supported Principal Investigator in the development of grant proposals, annual project reports, papers for publishing, newsletters for previous study participants and other professional publications. • Developed a study as a team focused on the modular imitation faculties of infants younger than one year, working as a team with technical staff to develop an innovative methodology involving a Tobii T60 eye tracker in a gaze-contingent paradigm. • Developed a study as a team to study infant attribution of mental states using a Tobii eye tracker and provided technical support to a collaborating group working on utilizing the same method to study these faculties in capuchin monkeys. • Built unique stimuli to meet laboratory needs using Flash and Inkscape.

• Supported the educational center as a generalist working directly with lower-functioning, often aggressive, special needs students with autism and related developmental disorders. • Utilized state of the art educational and augmentative communication technology to support educational and therapeutic goals of the students within speech/language pathology, occupational therapy, behavior programming, life/vocational skills, and general education.• Experience recording and analyzing detailed data related to: crisis intervention, behavior programming, life skills assessments, and individualized educational programs.• Participated in the constant reassessment of protocol for each student under my supervision at weekly team meetings based on significant trends in behavioral data.• Required quick thinking and appropriate reaction to regular crisis situations, efficient prioritization of actions in a fast-paced environment, adaptation to rapidly changing conditions and extraordinary patience.

• Supervised adolescent (13-17) groups from diverse economic backgrounds, including middle/upper class to inner city/at-risk, together while camping in state parks across Maryland, from the Chesapeake to Appalachia.• Worked with park personnel and rangers to arrange various nature-education activities as well as external vendors for higher risk outdoor sports such as high ropes courses, rock climbing, caving, and whitewater rafting. • Coordinated long-term scheduling and assisted with budgeting.
