Built and led the Consumer Engineering team for the D2C E-commerce business line, which was responsible for 90%+ of the company's overall revenue. Built and managed the UI team working on Intera 5, a web-based visual programming IDE for manufacturing robotics. Worked closely with brilliant roboticists, mechanical engineers, AI experts, and UX professionals to build complex, innovative, and intuitive user interfaces to drive the Sawyer collaborative robotics platform. Was hired as employee #7, first technical hire outside CTO & VP. Initial work was on a "Pinterest for fashion" shopping app (and companion website) targeted at surfacing nearby deals for consumers on their favorite brands. Company pivoted to an IoT advertising platform using BLE Beacons (which had just come on the market), at which point we built a full platform for a) IoT device fleet management b) SDKs for iOS and Android for interfacing with our hardware, and c) an ad-tech marketplace to allow retailers to sell in-store traffic as well as marketers to design and build highly-interactive creative. Worked as a Server Engineer on industry-first voice recognition applications for mobile devices (think Siri before Siri was a thing). Worked directly with NLP, speech, and mobile groups to implement features turning user voice actions into real results on their devices. Primary responsibilities were owning the codebase for our Content Search product and optimizing our Text to Speech service. Member of the Web Applications team working on various full-stack features for an industry-first "telehealth" product allowing people to have a short doctor's visit via a video conference call. As a hybrid Consulting / Product startup, Vgo Software focused on modernizing legacy Oracle Forms applications in the Insurance and Finance sectors, porting them to modern J2EE web applications. Engineering team was never more than 4, direct report to CTO. Work here consisted of part-time consulting on-site for various implementation projects, and part-time product development work on tools to automate large portions of these engagements. Internal product used custom-written parser to read Oracle Forms application code and data access tiers and generate fully working J2EE applications of a variety of flavors (JSP, JSF, Struts, Hibernate, Swing) as well as create database migrations off of Oracle to MySQL or MSSql if the customer wanted. Responsibilities also included doing platform demos for sales, investors, and trade shows and involvement in sales engineering / scoping efforts.Technologies used: Java, Swing, Struts, Hibernate, JSP, JSF, jQuery, Velocity (templates), Lapis (parser)
