My mission in life is to integrate varied technologies to make cool stuff that in some way improves the world. I'm largely figuring this out as I go along. My foundation is in software development; I've been doing this since I was nine years old. In my career of writing software, I've uncovered some general themes about what interests me most in this field -- software that augments human efficiency, and software that interfaces with the physical world. Drifting gradually from the former to the latter over the years, I've evolved from writing desktop software to enterprise database development and enterprise workflow reorganization to network communication and device control to embedded code for custom electronic devices. For the past several years I've branched out further into design, fabrication and manufacturing, specifically in the realm of electric vehicles. I'm passionate about technologies that present an opportunity to improve our world, and clean energy technologies have excited me and given me hope for the future.Stuff I do:Design: CAD, solid modeling, 3D scanning of complex surfaces and reverse engineering, feature capture and extractionCNC: CAM and toolpath programming for 2D/2.5D/3D processes, laser/waterjet cutting and 3D printingMachining: lathe and mill, CNC and manualFabrication: sheet metal, TIG and MIG welding in aluminum and steelElectrical: High and low voltage AC and DC wiring, electrical safety and circuit protectionElectronic: Interpretation of schematics for purposes of microcontroller firmware development, soldering and PCB rework, limited design skill and PCB layout and fab preparationMechanical and Automotive: Extensive experience with automotive disassembly and customization, rough and finish carpentry Software: C/C++, Java, Perl, Python, Graphtalk (Prolog), others; software for embedded (ARM Cortex, AVR, PIC), desktop, enterprise, database developmentPeople: Teaching and tutoring, small team supervision, technical writing
