I manage the infrastructure for a company that provides real estate professionals with the ability to produce high-quality marketing materials in an efficient, economical, and timely manner. With my two direct reports, I oversaw all multi-site infrastructure, including approximately 30 physical and 50 virtual machines.In one of the largest projects of my career, I planned and implemented the move of customer-facing equipment across town to a new facility within a very short timeframe. My predecessor resigned prior to the project launch. Working with my small IT team, we collaborated to develop and execute a plan that achieved the virtualization initiative and the move of existing infrastructure to a new building within 6 months and with a total downtime of only 3 hours.As part of my ongoing initiative to create an environment of collaboration, I encouraged the development and infrastructure teams to work as a single technology team. This new spirit of teamwork allows us to provide better service to customers and internal staff.

In this position, I resolved many lack of technology issues within the company and scaled up the technology to meet client needs. This required collaborating with the development team to augment applications, plan automation, and implement workflow solutions.As a Senior Systems Administrator, I introduced numerous technology procedures and improvements that reduced downtime, increased efficiency, and improved workflow. One example is that I scaled and adjusted the storage system to improve performance by more than 50%. Part of this project meant that I repeatedly tested and attempted to break the storage system to ensure its robustness.Another example of scaling up technology was that I utilized decommissioned equipment to create a private cloud so the developers had a better work environment. The developers were happy with the improvement in their ability to work and I was able to achieve this goal without capital expenditure.

For Charter Communications, a nationwide provider of communications and entertainment, including cable television, broadband internet, video on demand, and advertising, I maintained all Linux and Solaris machines in the Texas network. I also acted as backup for Network Operations, handling the Cisco switch maintenance and configuration.In this position, I acted as sales engineer to provide solid solutions to tentative customers. The sales representatives asked for my help in this role and I fulfilled it in addition to my other duties.I wrote a customized outage detection system that reduced detection time from 30 minutes to 3 minutes, teaming with the UNIX administrator. Then I fine-tuned the system for adoption throughout the company. I also streamlined the bottleneck for customer modem configuration by writing a script that allowed field technicians to enter data that automatically configured the modems.

This position came about because I volunteered my knowledge and expertise to the IT group having trouble with the Linux servers during a scramble to build an in-house network. My offer of help led to a job offer with the Broadband Services group. As Broadband Services Development Coordinator, I evaluated new technologies to resolve issues in the data network and reported my findings to the executives at the corporate office in St. Louis. Also, in this position, I stepped up to resolve a crisis when others refused. I managed the installation and configuration of equipment worth $500K that provided broadband internet to small city with a population of 9,000.In addition, I reduced operating costs and improved efficiency by introducing, installing and configuring multiple open source products. And I acted as sales engineer in this position, as well, employing my expertise with newer technologies to help the sales representatives.
