About Chris Ruhl
As a detail-oriented engineer with an extensive background in academic research, I pride myself on my ability to thoroughly investigate complicated engineering challenges and effectively communicate/teach my findings to others. Engineers do some pretty cool things, but that's only half the battle. Effective dissemination of your work to the appropriate audience is equally as important. As an engineer, I don't just solve problems, I emphasize these solutions through excellent communication with supervisors, colleagues, and/or the newest wave of engineering students!Currently, I am a Thermal Science Associate at Exponent, a premium engineering and scientific consulting firm with the depth and breadth of expertise to solve the most profoundly unique, unprecedented, and urgent challenges. This position is located in Phoenix, AZ. Previously, I completed my PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Lehigh University, where I explored the field of tidal energy harvesting. My focus was on processing large datasets gathered from field measurement deployments to characterize real-world turbulent flow statistics, ultimately in an effort to reproduce those turbulent conditions in a laboratory water tunnel.Other prior positions include Adjunct Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Lafayette College teaching thermal/fluids systems lab courses, Mechanical Engineer for the US Army CCDC C5ISR Center, PRD (Product Realization and System Engineer and Quality Directorate) specifically focused on DMSMS/Obsolescence challenges, and Insights Analyst for ~2 years at an emerging SaaS startup based in Brooklyn, NY.I graduated with a 4.0 GPA in the Technical Entrepreneurship (TE) Masters Program (M. Eng.) at Lehigh University. The TE program incorporates an experiential learning curriculum centered around teaching STEM-focused graduates the ins and outs of entrepreneurial ventures. Relevant topics include intellectual property, prototyping, creativity and product development, and corporate venturing. I completed my undergraduate studies at Lehigh, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. As an undergraduate, I conducted research in the evolving field of 3D Metal Printing with a small team of Lehigh students and professors. I was also a member of the Division 1 football team at Lehigh and served as a captain my senior year.My personal hobbies/interests include hybrid racing (aka fitness racing), refereeing high school basketball, and CrossFit training. Please feel free to connect and message me!
