Sharkey Media is the business that ultimately led to Autopilot being created. Working with many SMBs in Australia, our team of talented programmers and I worked to produce leading websites, CRMs and other web-based software. Sharkey Media is where I first started working with my brothers Michael and Peter. We found an excellent balance between our areas of expertise. Michael with the sales and leadership skills, Peter with the project management skills and me with the technical skills.This led to the launching of many successful projects including: Flying Solo, Business Chicks, CarRental.com.au, Konnecting, Kwik Copy marketing campaigns and many more.Our experiences with working with over 70 clients led to us finding common needs amongst them. We kept creating many of the same marketing tools over and over for our various clients. This led to the foundational ideas and concepts of Autopilot which are now realised and being used by thousands of clients worldwide.

Stayz was my first web business. With my business partner Robert Hunt, we created the largest self-contained accommodation website in Australia which we sold to Fairfax Media for $12.7 million. Ultimately Fairfax re-sold Stayz and the software I created to Homeaway for $220 million.My responsibility was the technical side. I created the booking system, website and all software required to run the business. Additionally, my work on SEO helped Stayz rank at the top or amongst the top search engine results for every region, area and related accommodation search query in Australia.Despite the success of Stayz, I see its role for me in my career is one of education. What I mean by that is that even if Stayz had failed, the things I learned in the process of creating Stayz from scratch would have and have had a profound effect on my knowledge of business, programming and entrepreneurship. I draw heavily on the experience I gained during this period of my life.
