About Chris Sharpless
I decided to study HR Management in college because of watching "Toby" on the TV show The Office. I had a simple goal after college and that was to get a job and ideally work in an office and get to interact with people. Knowing I didn't have strengths in Math or Science I wanted to capture as much training as possible during my 4 years at Florida State University. I ended up graduating with Majors in Marketing, Management, and HR Management. I also was lucky to work at the On Campus Music Venue and Student Programming board in the Marketing Department. During College, I went to the career fair and was introduced to the hard discount grocery store chain Save-A-Lot and completed an Internship and spent 10 months after college being trained to lead a retail district. I worked as hard as I possibly could and learned some great lessons that come from running a grocery store.With the realization that I was working myself into the ground and the desire for a more 9-5 MF job, I took the opportunity to drive across the country to Seattle with the hopes of landing with a company that I could grow with.After spending my first two months in Seattle in an HR internship with a non profit, I had the opportunity to interview for a company called PayScale that I read about in an HR magazine. It's been 5 years since that Interview happened and I couldn't be happier. I've become passionate about Compensation and Salaries and how it can impact an organizations ability to attract and retain the talent they need.
