Started out my tenure as Product Owner for the next generation AppFog Cloud Native application platform on CenturyLink Cloud. AppFog is a platform for creating, scaling, and managing Cloud Native applications and is based on Cloud Foundry. In my role as Product Owner I engaged in setting the vision, priorities, pricing, and go to market activities for the product launch. We successfully launched on July 15, 2016.After the launch I was asked to take on a role as Director of Product Management for the Cloud Platform. In this role I would oversee the Product Ownership duties for the Infrastructure as a Service platform. One of the main themes of focus was to make the platform capabilities extensible to satellite services being built atop including single sign-on (SSO), billing and invoicing, and service network for secure microservice API access. There were 4 teams developing these capabilities off one roadmap that I prioritized.Our culture was based on DevOps practices and principles. Each team owned their own service from idea to implementation to production support and monitoring. Some of my role was to also coach and support Product Owners across the organization to apply their product management backgrounds in this type of environment including how to make their roadmaps incremental and focused reducing Work in Process (WIP), providing a vision through tools such as Lean Canvas, and how to engage development teams through small, consistently sized stories and acceptance criteria using Gherkin language (Given/When/Then).

Helped start the Kirkland, WA office after acquisition of Agile Advantage by Rally Software. Grew and managed teams in learning and using Scrum(ban), Lean Startup, XP practices as their process and becoming performant teams working on an adjacent product capability to Rally's existing offerings in the Agile Portfolio Management market. The platform was built using:* AngularJS* Dropwizard for RESTful micro-services that focus on specific aspects of the domain* MongoDB* PostgreSQL on Amazon RDS* Continuous Delivery pipeline from Github checkin to master branch all the way to push-button release at least daily to production* Test infrastructure built for safety in all environment deployments and to catch issues early as possible to code being checked into master branch including unit, integration, functional, performance, visual diffs for catching unexpected UI changes and manual exploratory testing in staging environment that was based on production* Deployment to staging and production completed without any scheduled downtime* Deployment environment was on Amazon EC2* Chef-based configuration of instances* Early experiments with Docker

Taught over 100 Certified ScrumMaster and Product Owner courses across wide range of customers and public venues.

Developed AgileEVM, a tool to forecast progress based on cost and schedule across all releases in a portfolio, that enabled teams and organizations to identify early warning signs of risk in delivery plans. AgileEVM in the hallways of Agile 2010 and garnered great interest from large enterprises. The product morphed into a tool named Performer that added investment prioritization, impediment management, and cross-portfolio metrics and reporting.In July 2012, Rally Software acquired Agile Advantage (https://www.rallydev.com/community/agile-blog/rally-acquires-agile-advantage) with the intention of bringing the learning and access to executives at large enterprises to an already successful Rally product portfolio.

Provided consulting to teams, programs, and organizations on organizational change management, Scrum, XP, Kanban, Continuous Delivery and Managing Software Debt in a variety of industries and company sizes. We successfully helped teams and organizations make significant business impact as a result of our engagements.While at Sterling Barton I was named a Senior Cutter Consortium Consultant and worked on developing the Technical Debt Assessment offering with Israel Gat, a Cutter Consortium Fellow and Director of the Agile Product & Project Management practice, a Fellow of the Lean Systems Society, and a member of the Trident Capital SaaS advisory board.In addition, we provided Technical and Product due diligence services to multiple venture capital firms that included software, product roadmap, and team assessments.

Provided guidance and feedback on the courses and courseware for the Cloud Computing Program at the University of Washington.

Created the Agile Consulting practice at SolutionsIQ with Brent Barton. We provided services including Agile Coaching, Certified Scrum Training, Product Owner Coaching, and Lean/Agile Management Consulting.As a Technology Consultant, I was involved in many diverse projects and organizations. I was brought in to help with what seemed to be intractable problems to help provide guidance and prototype solutions for teams and organizational leadership.As a Team Lead I worked on multiple projects taking existing legacy software and helping teams find methods to bring that software under control and enhance it to meet our customer's needs.

Chris is currently teaching the “Advanced Topics in Agile Software Development” class at the University of Washington Agile Developer Certificate extension program.
