I'm a native of Virginia Beach and a 1981 graduate of the US Naval Academy. Upon graduation I entered the Submarine force where I qualified as a Naval Nuclear Engineer. In 1988 I entered the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. I did a transitional internship and an OB/GYN residency at the Naval Medical Center, Portsmouth. I have served as the Department Head for OB/GYN at the Naval Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida, and Chairmen of the OB/GYN department at the Naval Medical Center, Portsmouth. In 2004, I earned an MBA from the College of William and Mary. I am a fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and a Certified Physician Executive by the American College of Physician Executives. Upon retirement from the Navy in September 2005, my sister, also an OB/GYN, and I started our own small business and developed a new concept in the delivery of Obstetrical care that has resulted in documented life-saving interventions as well as improvement in safety and patient satisfaction, decreased malpractice risk and cost, along with improved nursing and physician satisfaction.Additionally, I serve as Vice President of Medical Affairs at Riverside Regional Medical Center. As VPMA, I act as a spokesperson and liaison between the medical staff and administration. I, along with the medical staff leadership, guides and directs medical staff activities and physician affairs, including physician relations, physician planning and problem-solving. I also work with the medical staff and administration as a physician advocate and medical advisor to non-physician clinical staff. I am responsible for the quality of patient care and patient safety at Riverside Regional Medical Center and I continue as a practicing physician, seeing patients two days a week. My wife, Lisa, and I live in Virginia Beach. We have five children ages 17 to 26.
