My personal philosophy of nursing is much like the definition as stated by Henderson (1964) which says that, “The unique function of the nurse is to assist the individual,sick or well, in the performance of those activities contributing to health or its recovery (or to a peaceful death) that he would perform unaided if he had the necessary strength, will or knowledge. And to do this in such a way as to help him gain independence asrapidly as possible” (p. 63). In addition to this, I believe that the mind is the biggestessential criteria for healing to come about. You cannot heal a person or teach them tohelp themselves if the spirit is broken. A person must have a reason of hope inside to care about the physical aspects of healing the body. A nurse's job is not just physical but includesmind, body and spirit. We must endeavor to heal the whole person and teach them likewise to heal themselves. Henderson, V. (1964).
