As Chief of Partnerships and Strategy, I'm responsible for identifying and building relationships with new partners that will increase the number of equity-focused continuous improvement Change Agents we can train. I also collaborate Partners CEO, Derek Mitchell, to tell our story and connect with funders, policy advocates, and system leaders.

I served on the Executive Committee and Chaired the Program Committee for my last 3 years on the Board of Directors. I provided program development support and expertise around knowledge management, continuous improvement, and measurement.

The Carnegie Math Pathways team moved from the Carnegie Foundation to WestEd in October 2017. We joined the STEM Program and are located at their Redwood City Headquarters. I still lead the knowledge management work and our new NSF project to study the role of A3 improvement coaching for college teams implementing math pathways reforms (https://www.carnegiemathpathways.org/).

I led the scaling work for the Foundation's oldest Networked Improvement Community - the Community Math Pathways. The Pathways project has been wildly successful in improving mathematics outcomes for traditionally under-served students. We are now using improvement methods to scale our proven interventions to deliver the same transformative opportunities to many more students.

With Senior Partner Alicia Grunow, I managed Carnegie's Center for Networked Improvement. The Center housed design, development and improvement research. Together we oversaw the core capacities that support all Networked Improvement Communities: analytics, developmental evaluation, design and development, program technologies and improvement research. The role of the Center was to support our partners by developing and promoting an infrastructure that allowed us to cull and synthesize the best of what we were learning from scholarship and practice, rapidly develop and test prospective improvements, deploy what we learned about what works in schools and classrooms, and add to our knowledge to continuously improve the performance of educational system.

I joined the Carnegie Foundation to direct Director of the Advancing Teaching-Improving Learning (ATIL) program. This project seeks to enhance the capacity of those working in the field of teacher assessment and evaluation by helping them to learn from emerging practices in order to build more effective information systems to advance teacher quality.

The Center of Data Quality and Systems Innovation explores the challenges of integrating the emerging changes in educational accountability systems with the social and technical systems in place in schools and districts. The challenge of adapting organizational designs and related software tools to novel uses is real and pressing. We also provided guidance and technical assistance to recipients of all 3 rounds of grants from the U.S. Department of Education Teacher Incentive Fund Initiative. We coordinated several projects in Milwaukee Public Schools to improve data quality and data system integrity. We also worked with 14 different teacher preparation programs across Minnesota and North and South Dakota to track teacher candidates into their initial teacher positions and generate value-added estimates of teacher and teacher preparation program productivity.

I was promoted as recognition for my ability win external funding for innovative research projects in the areas of organizational improvement, systemic reform, data quality, and organizational redesign.

I'm having great fun co-teaching a graduate course called Leadership and Technology (ELPA 940) with Rich Halverson in the Education Leadership and Policy Analysis department.

Value-Added Research Center (VARC), UW-MadisonWith VARC Director Rob Meyer, I led the Value-Added Research Center in its mission to promote the development, application, and dissemination of value-added research methods to evaluate the performance and effectiveness of educational agencies. My research group focused on issues of measurement, data systems, data quality, and process redesign.

A the time I left the role, Technical Services was made up of four teams: (a) research consulting, (b) computer support, (c) Web and media services, and (d) database and application development. These teams worked together to provide sophisticated and coordinated solutions to WCER researchers, educators, and staff. I began with 5 staff and a$450k budget in 1997 grew the operation to 21 staff and a $1.7mil budget in 2010.WCER research consulting experts provide direct support for the following services:• Proposal development. Advice to investigators about possible technologies and effort required to accomplish proposed tasks; assistance with proposal writing.• Methods/analytical tools. Research design, operationalization of methods, training with analytical tools, and other direct research support.• Partnering/enterprise access. Large-scale storage and collaborative environments to bridge the gap between WCER and partners at a distance; access to data warehouse and other enterprise technologies

I worked with Terry Millar on the development and deployment of an enterprise knowledge management and collaboration system to support the NSF-funded SCALE Math and Science Partnership. I also worked with Rob Meyer to support the startup of the Value Added Research Center.

I was the principal investigator of Digital Insight, project that developed tools and processes to automate elements of video data analysis that are currently "handcrafted." The project both built capacity for analyzing rich, complex data sets and built histories of student learning for use in research and instruction in math and science education. We will, at the same time, studied the dynamics of successful collaborative teams and their interaction with the tools developed and services provided in an attempt to discover and disseminate more efficient practices and more powerful analytical tools. We developed both video-analysis tools and a research-based online workflow environment to support participating research teams. We also developed a prototype process model for supporting collaborative research. Our research was aimed squarely at the intersection of this effort to build capacity and to understand the consequences of this new capacity for research and professional development

Led the expansion of WCER Technical Services from a narrow focus on desktop support and network services to a range of services designed to support leading edge research - including application development, data warehouse design, and large scale multimedia work.

My primary focus was to take a group of technical support professionals and create a research services team. I also began providing methodological and research design support for scholarly proposals across a wide range of fields.

I designed and co-administered state-wide, multi-year data collection and analysis efforts focused on the transition of high school students into the workforce. I also evaluated the effectiveness of several competing approaches to vocational education and curriculum reform. I provided program participants and administrators with site-specific analysis, technical assistance, and policy recommendations.

I managed the day-to-day operations of John Witte's evaluation of the Milwaukee School Voucher Program. I managed a staff of 2-3 grad students through a number of large surveys as well as conducted most of the statistical analysis of student test scores.
