I effectively managed & maintained the high profile Genomics England/UCAM project, utilising whole genome sequencing (WGS) in a healthcare environment, helping create a lasting legacy for patients, the NHS and the UK economy through the sequencing of 100,000 genomes from 70,000 people with rare genetic diseases, plus their families & patients with cancer. The aim is to transform care by creating a new genomic medicine service for the NHS. This project is a world first; a partnership between NHS England, the Department of Health, Genomics England, University of Cambridge & Illumina. This collaborative approach will enable ground-breaking medical research, combining genomic sequence data with medical records. Causes, diagnosis & treatment of diseases will be investigated, & the interpretation of data optimised to help patients, paving the way for the personalised medicine by using genomics within the healthcare environment. Integral member of the management & management review team for the implementation of ISO 15189 into Illumina’s clinical sequencing laboratory.
