During my second summer at the Columbia Woods Medical Group, I served as a medical assistant to Dr. Leslie Murphy. This position involved taking basic vitals, rooming patients, and gathering information regarding their history of present illness and any general concerns they would like to go over with the physician. I tested urine samples and recorded the urinalysis results for infections such as UTIs and prepared those samples to be sent out for culture. I learned how to effectively speak with patients regarding different lab and imaging results and gave direction on how to improve results under physician order. I assisted in making patient appointments following their insurance guidelines, along with creating and sending reminder letters about missed appointments/procedures. I answered voicemails left by patients regarding any questions or concerns and created requests for prescription refills. Importantly, I adhered to the HIPAA Privacy Rule.

During my time at the Columbia Woods Medical Group, I served as a medical scribe to Dr. Leslie Murphy; this involved inputting any information the patient has regarding their illness, along with treatments provided by Dr. Murphy into the patient’s chart through eClinicalWorks. I also spent time assisting other physicians by reviewing patients’ charts and sent orders to their PCPs regarding missing/overdue procedures such as colonoscopies, mammograms, DEXA scans, and more. I assisted in making patient appointments following their insurance guidelines, along with creating and sending reminder letters about missed appointments/procedures. I answered voicemails left by patients and created requests for prescription refills. Lastly, I adhered to the HIPAA Privacy Rule

I worked at Kona Ice of Central Canton during the summers of 2021, 2022, and 2023. My role included driving the Kona truck to events and through neighborhoods, serving the product, organizing and handling payments, maintaining the cleanliness of the truck, practicing good customer service, working closely with other employees to ensure easy flow of service, and other miscellaneous tasks.
