I am currently in my second year of pursuing a Bachelors in English with a minor in Journalism. I am exploring every avenue possible to develop my writing and instructing abilities; I am aiming to complete a 4+1 accelerated Masters of Education to become a High School TeacherI am working to get more involved on campus; I have been a member of Student Activists Against Sexual Assault, a student organization which advocates for change surrounding the issues of sexual assault, since I began attending Temple. I plan to become even more involved in this effort over the rest of my time at this university. Additionally, I attend a weekly writing group where myself and other creatives dedicate time to discuss a given piece (or multiple) that have been submitted by a member for review, and work to refine our craft and uplift each other to develop as writers. This group serves as a great community and a motivator to push myself creatively as I explore my literary voice. This past May, I attended Temple Honors Appalachia (THA), an annual service trip that works with non-profits in Hazard and Paintsville, Kentucky to repair, build, and restore homes in underserved communities in the Appalachian area; I personally aided in completing an accessibility ramp and deck on a home near Hazard with Housing Development Alliance. In preparation for this trip, we extensively discussed being informed volunteers on the area and on understanding the work we would be doing in the region, and while on the trip held daily meetings debriefing our experience and what we learned over the course of our work.I am a seasonal (formerly part-time) employee of Big Bean Coffee house in Severna Park, MD, a local business which centered not only quality products but excellent service. I continue to develop my teamwork and leadership abilities through this job, and have grown to love providing a wonderful customer experience as well as talking to people in general. I have also greatly improved my ability to multi-task through my time at Big Bean, with a fast-paced food-and-drink-prep environment combined with an emphasis on communication testing my abilities in both areas. The experience of working at Big Bean has made me love coffee and customer service, but also pushed me to work hard and problem solve efficiently.
