We serve as a popular and valued community STEM hub, connecting with audiences and communities through our innovative onsite, offsite, and online programs. We use informal learning, creative problem solving, and collaborative STEM equity and advocacy partnerships to meet people where they are and create meaningful experiences. I am incredibly fortunate to work with a very talented and dedicated staff and Board. We spark your curiosity and "put YOU at the CENTER of SCIENCE" in Detroit, across the State of Michigan, and beyond.

As a C-level executive, my role at the Saint Louis Science Center was to ignite and sustain an amazing portfolio of engaging and innovative programs, exhibits, and partnerships serving the people of the St. Louis region. I worked with an amazing team. We collaborated with partners and connected to communities, all while effectively cultivating philanthropic support. It was a blast!

(Concurrently with other positions) In my role as a consultant, I rescued projects in distress by stabilizing project variables that can cause chaos. My objective was to help clients facilitate efficient and effective projects by neutralizing resistant culture, destroying obsolete systems and structures, and replacing outmoded project paradigms. (Concurrently with other positions) I served one two-year term as President of the Board of Directors (2012-2014). I was a member of the board for over ten (10) years and was the chair of the Future Planning and Programs Committee. SSF, Inc. has operated brilliantly for more than 60 years and takes place at the Museum of Science and Industry every March.

At CAF, I led a talented team of learning designers, experience developers, and volunteers to inspire people to discover why design matters, and connected the public to the pulse of key issues facing the built environment. • Directed a comprehensive department restructuring process• Initiated a game-based Digital Design Innovation Tournament• Served as project sponsor for the DiscoverDesign.org badging and Loop Digital Stories• Directed the design, development, and launch of CAF's ArcelorMittal (LEGO) Design Studio• Directed the strategy, rechartering, and execution of the Chicago: City of Big Data Exhibition• Supervised the development of Great Cities, Great Lakes, Great Basin exhibition with SOM

It was an absolute pleasure and an honor to direct the design and development for interest-driven networked programs to remix Chicago's learning landscape. The network, founded and funded by the MacArthur Foundation, was part of the Digital Media & Learning Initiative and is now operated by the Mozilla Foundation. • Directed network program portfolio, project teams, and working groups• Integrated HOMAGO, connected learning, badge systems, and digital mentoring strategies• Served as a learning connector, linking resources across the network• Facilitated ideation and planning sessions to develop RFPs and manage grants processes• Managed risks and developed project feasibility assessments

Building a scalable youth-centered program model based on fostering new relationships among educators, scientists, and teens is both challenging and rewarding. (Concurrently with other positions) I was elected for a two-year term and served as a director for the entire Chicago Region. ISTA is committed to promoting excellence in science teaching and learning. The Association serves as an advocate for science educators by keeping its members and the general public informed about Illinois issues and trends in science education. ISTA is a state chapter of the National Science Teachers Association.

Directed strategic planning, facilitated program management, and built partnerships for a "full-service" aquatic science education department. I also helped lead the development of government, corporate, and private funding for mission-based education programs (IMLS, NOAA, etc.). Served on several institutional leadership teams including the aquarium’s Leadership Council. Served twice as Chair of the Education Committee for Museums in the Park.• Managed annual operating budgets of ~ $2 million• Initiated the NOAA/MATE Midwest Regional Underwater Robotics Competition• Served as PI for 3 year IMLS National Leadership Grant Project• Led technology strategy development for the board’s education committee

(While at Shedd Aquarium) I co-taught (with my Assistant Director) a multi-site graduate course in zoo and aquarium leadership and management. Covered topics in strategic planning, marketing, fundraising, education, and collections. Designed real-world challenge-based projects for students. • Employed a Polycom® videoconferencing system for synchronous classes• Integrated Blackboard® online course management system for asynchronous collaboration

(While at Shedd Aquarium) Coached 1st generation college bound students to succeed at the next level. I taught marine biology, oceanography, physics, and astronomy to Chicago Public Schools High School students. I also served as both a tutor and an academic mentor for science for two periods from 1998 - 2000 and 2003 - 2004.

There is nothing bigger than IMAX! I negotiated major film contracts and tracked film performance daily. Coordinated private screenings and market research tests. Supervised a staff of four (4) projectionists and three (3) technicians. Managed a separate A/V department, technical budgets and maintenance contracts. Also, contributed to the planning, design, and development of the renovated Gates planetarium. • Managed a 441-seat IMAX® Theater generating annual revenue of over $1.5 million• Led concept development and planning of a digital planetarium show for school audiences

I initiated a major restructuring of the School and Outreach division. Supervised a staff of nine instructors, 23 volunteers and two technical staff. Coordinated program logistics, operations, staff, and project budgets. Taught K-12 science classes and labs and designed curriculum modules.• Co-led High School Marine Biology trip to Bimini Island, Bahamas on Shedd’s research vessel• Managed a $250,000 state-funded online museum technology project• Designed curriculum modules for preK-12 grade on-site and outreach programs

I supervised staff and technology grant implementation. Coordinated adult programs and summer camps. Operated observatory and facilitated sky shows. • Served as Airborne Educator aboard NASA’s Kuiper Airborne Observatory• Served as educator for the design of four (4) major astronomy exhibitions• Hosted satellite broadcast for Hubble Repair Mission event • Co-designed the Park Voyagers collaborative community program

I managed a $300,000 science and technology grant servicing 40 Illinois schools. Conducted teacher training, supervised staff, developed teacher workshops, conducted evaluations. Presented program outcomes to state legislators and lobbyists. • Co-developed an online interactive planetarium tour • Facilitated teacher workshops for Hands on Universe virtual observatory• Beta tested Apple QTVR (object movie) software for program implementation

I developed challenging astronomy programs for both public and K-12 audiences. Trained and supervised education staff. Managed programs and project budgets. • Operated the 20" CCD equipped reflecting telescope• Served as an educator for the Center for Astrophysical Research in Antarctica (CARA) • Coordinated tri-institutional summer camp programs with Field Museum of Natural History and Shedd Aquarium

(While at Adler Planetarium) I served as a contract science instructor in the zoo’s (ZAP) outreach program on Saturdays during the summer at Austin and Lozano branch libraries (CPL).

(While still an undergraduate) I served as a public exhibit facilitator, which is not as easy as it sounds. Interpreted temporary exhibits: Star Trek: Federation Science (OMSI) and Mission to Mars (COSI). • Performed live science demos for audiences of 350+ students and teachers• Served as special programs educator for the JASON Project

Served as a Teaching Assistant for physics faculty members teaching physics for non-majors.

Assisted staff astronomers in research projects. Operated the star projector, interpreted telescopes and operated 20" Reflector and CCD camera in the Observatory. Performed star talks. Served as a science interpreter and rare book library assistant. Responded to astronomy inquiries.
