Christian Siderius grew up in the Netherlands and, after four years in London, UK, is now living in Sydney, Australia. He is an adaptation and water resources expert with more than 15 years of experience in conducting research and consultancy on climate, water and food risks around the world for a various clients and organizations.​He is especially interested in the value of water in agriculture, and the link between climate variability and risk, resilience and adaptation strategies. This translates into a focus on the human influence in river basins and the integration of people’s choices and strategies in land use and water allocation to deal with climate variability.Christian enjoys interacting with people at work, within research projects and in workshops and brainstorm sessions. His ambition is to make a useful, science-based contribution to societal challenges. To do so, he can draw from experience in conducting literature reviews, working with field data, big data and remote sensing and applying hydro-economic and hydrological models. He has been working mostly in South Asia, East Africa and northern Europe.​Christian has a Masters and engineering degree in Agriculture and Integrated Water Management and a combined PhD in Environmental Economics and Earth System Sciences, both from Wageningen University, the Netherlands. In his doctoral thesis he explored the topic of ‘Flexibility in land and water use for coping with rainfall variability’, with the Nile and Ganges as case study basins. Previously he worked at Wageningen Environmental Research, from 2004 to 2019, and for the Grantham Research Institute at the London School of Economics in London, from 2016 to 2020. He is currently a visiting scientist in the Water Resources Management Group of Wageningen University.
