Hello, my name is Christina Hall and I am currently in the Integrated Business and Humanities program at McMaster University, and am actively looking for an internship for next year. The IBH program has provided me with many learning opportunities such as: working with local Hamilton businesses to develop a long-term marketing plan, reading cases about actions Fortune 500 companies are making towards sustainability, and transforming myself into a strong and positive leader. As a member of the DeGroote community, I was encouraged to get involved. In my first year I joined DeGroote Impact as a First Year Representative. We organized fundraising events for local homeless shelters through trivia nights and bake sales. We also hosted an event called "5 Days for Homelessness" and encouraged participants to raise money and refrain from using amenities like showers, technology devices and even their beds. From this experience I was able to get some insight into the non-profit sector and reasoning behind why people give. In my Second year I decided to challenge myself and take on something more exciting with a greater time commitment. After three rounds of interviews, I was selected to be one of 15 delegates of Elite Seat 3. This case competition team pushed me to conduct secondary research through interviews and surveys, to improve my presentation style with engaging tones and a story line, and to pay more attention to figuring out the root problem before diving into the solution. From this experience I improved my critical thinking ability and made connections I still hold and value. Currently, I am in my third year and I took on a new challenge. I have been operating a small clothing business for a few years now, but I wanted to take the opportunity online school has given me to devote more time to my business. I handle my own finances, marketing, product creation and delivery. I have a very local customer base and I often sell my clothing items within the hour of their release. Running my own small business has taught me to be optimistic, but also practical. I have learned the importance of customer service, reliability, friendliness, and overall professionalism.
