I was an artist and dancer before becoming a designer. These ‘first loves’ still inform my practice, but design for interior spaces is fundamentally about connecting with and understanding the people who will use them. I love the expansive canvas offered by hotels and hospitality venues : There is scope for boldness and impact, and I’m proud to have worked on projects of some scale. I also really enjoy helping people get the absolute most from their homes. Small adjustments, like the placement of a door, can significantly impact how a room functions and feels. Questions such as ‘Where will someone’s first morning coffee/tea be made and how close is that to the garden?’ are often more important than ‘What colour might this wall/ceiling be?’When not working I am ideally out under the sky, immersed in an art exhibition, or connecting with friends. I continue to be inspired by contemporary dance, film and set design, and by watching topflight tennis which is the most intense psychological and physical battle !
